Hoss Posted June 18 Report Posted June 18 Friendly reminder of how much this was pushed last offseason, as well. Multiple reporters on multiple occasions suggested things were "heating up" and even getting close for nothing to happen. That doesn't mean those reports weren't true and we just held onto Byram, but I wonder how much of this all is just Ferris pushing the buttons to either get an above-market deal or get his player to a team willing to sign that deal. Just now, inkman said: I can't imagine a scenario where the Sabres can pay 3 dmen 8+ mill a season. Hey old friend, this has long been my thinking, too. I also think we can't ignore the few black hole games Byram had against Montreal. 5 1 Quote
inkman Posted June 18 Report Posted June 18 This does make a Thomas & Parayko deal seem plausible. Get the top line center, include a short term replacement for Bo in the Top 4. 6 Quote

Then certainly listen to offers. I like BB as a very good 2nd pair guy. I don't like him if I'm paying him like a first pair guy. It's probably more complicated than this, but I pay him $10m per year before I give it to Tuch. The choice is probably not binary though. I'd really be interested in what these other teams are offering. 3 Quote
LGR4GM Posted June 18 Report Posted June 18 Alright twist my arm St Louis. I will trade you Byram, Ostulnd, 20th, and Mrtka for Thomas and Carbonneau. I am joking... kinda. 1 1 Quote

ponokasabre Posted June 18 Report Posted June 18 I mean it does make a ton of sense Byram for Knies makes so much sense its just what do we have to add? Cause I dont think Byram with one year left is on the exact same value as Knies extended on a great contract So would Byram extend with the Leafs? Or do we have to add? 1 Quote

Knies at $7.75/ for the next 5 years is a great contract? You clearly believe his stat sheets are due to him alone and not a product of his linemates. We do not agree on that. 1 Quote

Hopefully it’s noise aimed at getting Bo an extravagant contract in Buffalo, not at getting Bo moved. 1 minute ago, mjd1001 said: I agree. At this point I don't really want any part of Knies. elijah Posted June 18 Report Posted June 18 The idea of resigning Bo at $7M-$8M and locking up that top 4 defense for a long time was very intriguing The report of Bo asking for $10M+ made that idea not very intriguing. I don’t mind moving Bo for another legitimate top 6 forward, as long as it doesn’t come with the ramification of signing Stanley to top 4 money and playing him top 4 minutes 1 Quote
DarthEbriate Posted June 18 Report Posted June 18 Is Knies today where Tuch was when the Eichel trade took place? Except of course, Tuch was protected by Stone and ...whoever was on the misfits 2nd line with Karlsson that season... while Knies was on a TOR team that had Matthews out injured and the rest of the roster was collapsing. Because Tuch wasn't necessarily ready be a 1st liner, but he blossomed in the opportunity. Quote

jahnyc Posted June 18 Report Posted June 18 Does it make sense to trade Kesselring for so little if you also will be trading Byram? Wouldn't make sense to me to lose both Tuch and Byram this offseason given the success the team had last season. Team chemistry/composition is important. Quote

Tuch was 25, with seasons of 37, 52, 17 and 33 points with a history of injury. Knies is 23 with seasons of 35, 58 and 66. In terms of cap percentage and term remaining at the time, the two players are on similar deals. Knies is 230 and gets to the net. He is also a lifelong pal of Josh Doan. 2 1 4 Quote

Right, but Knies has already had that opportunity to be on 1st line/PP1. And at 23 -- does his overall game still have room to grow (regardless of whether he's on Matthews' wing or not)? I would think yes. 1 Quote
ponokasabre Posted June 18 Report Posted June 18 Knies would be a real add, make no mistake about it Everything about him fits with what we want to do I am fine giving Byram up for Knies How do we replace a Byram on the back end is my only concern It just feels like so much change on a team that was one goal away from the Eastern Conference final 1 1 Quote
