Switzerland 1954

Confused Little Girl GIF

Wow, you're right. I misread it. They were only quarterfinalists in 1954. Good catch.

That also happens to be their most recent quarterfinals appearance before this year.

Yeah the swiss had even a better team in 2022, just bad penalties 😄

No worries boys hope I can keep this thread alive until next sunday.

Next up Spain vs Belgium.  70%-30% chance but more if they play like last game.  Also TDF going on, both countries will be watching that too.

I understand Mbappé was iced but he still needs to make that penalty. We’ll see if he lives to regret it

Or if he’s got another up his sleeve

If he's complaining that he was iced, he's mentally weak.  He was juked by the keeper, plain and simple.

Best part is Moroccans speak French so they understand all the crap talking 😂

Don't know if this is true, sounds very special, but heard 76 players in the tournament are born in France. Lots of African players, half Senegal team.

My buddy is Moroccan, they speak Arabic, French and English from birth, many speak 6+ languages, it's just part of the culture.. Some of the rural areas and older generation may not but all the futbol players for sure do.

Makes me sad in the US, they only give us limited choices and now that I'm older, it's hard to learn

Also France walking away now.

He needed about 4 inches of space to get that shot off, crazy.

I'm pretty sure I remember them at one point saying that only one player on Morocco's starting 11 was born in Morocco.

Yeah, hard to see anyone beat France in this tournament. And I am a bit disappointed with Maroccan freekicks and corners, they have been useless.

This was something new to me that I learned recently how many in African, Arabia and Persian countries learn French. Learning languages is a richness. It sounds pretty much the same as in Finland how you describe US.

I had to re check the stats about this.  It was even worse than I first wrote. There are 76 players born in France playing for other ciuntries than France.  And then there is the French national team. So a total of 99 players. In one way they are already best in the world.

Four years ago the number of French born players were 59.

I went to public Sauna in Helsinki a few years ago, and all the locals were so happy to speak English with me 😂 they don't get many Americans there in those places, but it seems English is pretty popular at least in the cities of Finland.

I am part of the swedish speaking minority in Finland and earlier there was more importans in learning swedish here, nowadays it often sounds like swedish is a holdback to learn english. I can not agree there. But there is a fact that swedish is more similar to english than the finnish language, so swedish speaking have a bit easier there. But learning is mostly about attitudes imo.

I think Finland should have a international approach, just as we do now with Alexander Stubb as president, but just as in many countries all over the world there are forces that consider we should have a distance and not send money and resources to help others. Even with challenging financial situation I think it is a way to be a respected community to take part in international cooperation. And then again we should get more workplaces and we should market ourselves as a great export nation who manufactures quality products, but we should not put any financial efforts to it. It is hard to understand if they are even serious at times. A friend of mine stated, he will start woting in elections when there is a IQ level required among the politicians.

After all of the nonsense in the thread with politics and Balogun... It mattered not, maybe we can leave that behind now.

The US will never win a world cup, maybe never make it to a final 8, futbol just isn't cultural here, it was a nice ride but we're fooling ourselves to think we will advance against these other teams That live soccer

Same thing was said prior to 1980 Olympics when college kids beat professionals.  Futbol is growing in the US, and the culture is changing as too.

He had two really nice assists

Yes he did. But that’s not why I now like him.

And for the record my previous favorite players were probably Alex Morgan and Robert Baggio for unrelated reasons. So you can see how closely I follow the game.

Alex had a nice body painted bikini in one of the SI Swimsuit issues back when that was a thing.

Veddy nice.
