The NHL Draft thread turns, and Pages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Page that gave it birth comes again (usually about Eichel). In one Page, called the Draft Page by some, a Page yet to come, a Page long past, a wind rose on the eastern shore of the Lake they called Erie. The wind was not the beginning. There are neither beginnings nor endings to the NHL Draft Thread. But it was a beginning.

Do you have a few players you're eyeing in that area yet?

Yea, and I posted them in the 2026 draft thread that someone deleted.

So glad 11 months of work was just deleted without so much as an explanation. Good ***** times.

Here's a draft guide.

It wasn't, I wrote earlier but no one noticed. It was for some strange reason moved along with other content in another tread. Admin might be able to move it back.

The Sabres currently hold their picks in rounds 1, 4, 5, and 6. They're likely to shed a couple contracts for an additional pick or two before/during the draft.

But even with only four picks, they still probably need to take a goalie this draft (or acquire a prospect goalie via trade). I'd probably earmark the 5th rounder for the goalie and see what you have in 5 years.

This season, the Sabres will lose Ellis or Levi if subjected to waivers. Thus, the three-headed goalie monster's reported return in October. Levi has the better odds to go unclaimed, but there are certainly a few teams who would take the chance and would have their own current backup tender still waivers exempt - then waive Levi if he busts. He could still be an Amerk in 26-27, but don't count on it. I'd look for him to be moved for a pick or as a package.

Topias Leinonen only played 15 games last season -- thanks to Ellis (which meant no Levi promotions during injuries). Add to that the good health of Levi, and Ratzlaff earning the ECHL starter's net meant that Leinonen only managed spot duty. And Luukkonen (and Georgiev!) took Rochester starts as well. Leinonen was also by far the worst of the Rochester goalies exempting Cameron Rowe's lone appearance (15 minutes). It's not time to move on, but he's not likely to earn the starter's net at AHL/ECHL level this season either.

Ryerson Leenders' rights expire today (Puckpedia [wow, that's timely]) if, a) he doesn't commit to a NCAA program, or b) sign an ELC. If signed, he'd likely immediately take the ECHL net this season. So, shortly after this posts, I sure we'll hear one way or the other. That 6th rounder this year could be Leenders again with an extended rights timeline.

Samuel Meloche has committed to Northeastern University and should play there this year. Set it and forget it for a bit.

Yevgeni Prokhorov had a great playoff (statistically 1st in save%) in the MHL this year. His regular season numbers look great until you see it relative to his peers -- the MHL is a goaltender's dream league if you're in the Gold divisions, and not the team that had 2 wins on the season in the Silver division. So, .925 was great, but only 26th among qualifying goalies. He could be something, he might not.

The Amerks will definitely need to sign a veteran as insurance, but the Sabres should add a potential Leenders replacement the pipeline.

No man, your analysis is a critical role on SS.

Sabres let his rights expire despite having a solid season in the CHL and a great playoffs.  Also let the rights expire to 2022 picks Gustav Karlsson and Joel Berndtsson.

If you can't tell, I am mad about the draft thread which was started last year being deleted, removed, or merged with all the content therein now scattered or gone.

Anyways, I don't want Ryan Roobroeck even though I respect the talent level he has. See that "needs to move his feet and ENGAGE MORE" part? That is such a red flag to the way I read these scouting reports and for Roobroeck, I have seen that not only from Wheeler but also from EP (who has multiple reports to read) and that is just a no go for me. Now at 27 would I draft him? I said it was a no go right? At 27 I might consider it because of the talent level but the lack of engagement on the ice probably puts less skilled guys above him.

"Roobroeck doesn’t play a physical or imposing game for a player his size, and needs to move his feet and engage more."
