I actually dislike Carolina much more than Montreal. I liked Montreal and Boston (Bobby Orr) when I first got into hockey. Montreal was and is the team with real mystique and amazing winning culture. Well said. I was never a fan of the hockey Habs, but I’m a fan of Quebecers and love the city of Montreal, even spent our honeymoon in Montreal a long long time ago. Where we used to live, it wasn’t that far from there. Over the years I did quite a bit of business in Quebec, met a lot of good people there, and still have some good friends up there. IMO, Quebecers are some of the coolest people on the planet, so if the Habs continue to do well, I’ll be happy for my old Quebec buddies. 1 Quote

I'm going to assume Carolina was caught napping from too many days off but we shall see. Certainly not what I expected. Vegas Montreal final? I doubt it but stranger things have happened. 3 hours ago, quill said: Well said. DarthEbriate Posted May 22 Report Posted May 22 If Suzuki (Selke nominee) can erase Aho -- which has been done in many a Canes playoff past -- and if Danault (insufficient scoring for a Selke, but possibly even better defensively than the nominees) can erase Stankoven... And Dobes continues to Dob. Quote
Wyldnwoody44 Posted May 22 Report Posted May 22 After the 1st period, it was all Carolina... Only problem is, you can't allow 4 goals in a period and expect to win. MTL has gotten very timely scoring all playoffs, they have also looked very beatable between Dobes Swimming and them being destroyed in their D zone for large chunks, but somehow they just don't lose. Call it great luck, or whatever you want, but it's insane they won 2 game 7s already where they were the inferior team. Now they get game 1 of a series where the other team was clearly asleep for the 1st period. 1 Quote

SabreFinn Posted May 22 Report Posted May 22 I expect Carolina to be better next game, that was horrible, they should be good on the forecheck but that was like juniorhockey. And Montreal seemed used to play in much harder pace after going up against the Sabres. Quote
RETURNTOGLORY Posted May 22 Report Posted May 22 11 Days off was what you saw last night. You don't ever get 11 straight days off in the regular season. The league botched this situation. 1 Quote

zow2 Posted May 22 Report Posted May 22 I was sure Carolina would be rusty last night so bet on Montreal. I think Colorado and Carolina come back to win their respective game 2's. Cale Makar being out again is definitely a concern but I still think the Avs have enough desperation to win game 2 tonight. I refuse to accept that Carter Hart is as good as he's looked in the past few games. 1 Quote

Fansince70 Posted May 23 Report Posted May 23 I'll get heat for this, but Vegas had a worse goalie situation than Buffalo earlier this year and turned it around with one signing. If the Sabres had the stones to outbid them and somehow secure Carter Hart, they beat Montreal in six. Falling back on the three headed goalie monster next year will win games in the regular season, but when it comes to the second round of the playoffs and above, hoping Ellis, Lyon and (gulp) UPL somehow become more than what we already know they are will just not cut it. To those who say starting playoff goalies don't become available, talk to Kelly McCrimmon. While the Sabres have every right to be proud of the distance they covered this year in getting to the playoffs, by no means should they be satisfied. Time to be a great organization, not just a good or even very good one. Quote
... Posted May 23 Report Posted May 23 This Sabres goalie narrative is so stupid. As mentioned elsewhere in the forum, goaltending wasn't the Sabres' problem in the playoffs. Lack of discipline, puck management, and a dissappearing act by the top line were the problems. I don't even like UPL but the Sabres let Montreal do Montreal things in the D zone way too much in that series. 3 1 Quote

GP G A PTS +- 14 7 12 19 +13 He would have been the difference maker for us had we pursued him. Then there was our right wing Alex Tuch... Quote

Time to be a great organization, not just a good or even very good one. Hart is far too controversial and simultaneously bi-polar (in regards to his play) to be a reliable pick up. He's just as likely to play incredible as he is to give up 5 in 10 shots and sink his team. 5 hours ago, ... said: This Sabres goalie narrative is so stupid. Goaltending was the issue to start Game 6 but otherwise much of our GA issues were self inflicted. Some we could of, and tried, to patch up whereas some of it was a natural weakness to our highly effective style of play. Quote
