Popular Post Brawndo Posted May 20 Author Popular Post Report Posted May 20 I think Jarmo is prioritizing Byram over Tuch. Looking at the depth chart alone, that’s a wise choice, then add in the age comparison. It’s the right move 20 15 Quote
thewookie1 Posted May 20 Report Posted May 20 (edited) Sounds like Jarmo ain’t negotiating with Tuch as much as setting down an offer and saying it’s up to you. We aren’t going to cripple ourselves to keep you although we want to greatly keep you. Add to that the comments on Benson, Byram and the salary cap rules and I’m guessing he’s firm at something akin to 8x8mil or in that range. Edited May 20 by thewookie1 4 1 Quote

If they can't sign everybody, and Tuch is going to command a long-term deal in excess of $10M per season on the open market at the age of 30+ (and wants that), the inevitable result is that they'll have to let him walk. I'm looking at the Montreal series as an anomaly. Tuch was one of the best players against Boston and an excellent player overall who adds a lot to the team. There's only so much space under the salary cap. 3 1 Quote
thewookie1 Posted May 20 Report Posted May 20 I do like Jarmo’s talk about being happy but never content about the season. And that they should done more in earlier games to prevent Game 7 from even being needed. Obviously that point is in the locker room as Dahlin said a very similar thing after Game 7 3 1 1 Quote

Much more consistent than we’ve seen this season. If we aren’t retaining him, I’m guessing Jarmo has plans to upgrade in that area. 1 Quote
Carmel Corn Posted May 20 Report Posted May 20 Heard his comments about Kesselring....leaves me still doubtful about his future in Buffalo. Seemed to imply Kesselring wasn't expecting to be relegated to bottom 6 duty. Maybe not fitting in well with his new team in Buffalo. Not a glowing endorsement IMHO. 1 1 Quote

Obviously that point is in the locker room as Dahlin said a very similar thing after Game 7 I think that's the real jump this team will have to make. Being dominant and consistent. No let up. The Canes. I pointed out how this team kept teasing with big wins only to follow up with a loss. I think next year's Sabres will be able to time travel and beat Boston in 4 and Montreal in 5! 3 Quote
Turbo44 Posted May 20 Report Posted May 20 13m under cap Extension for Byram wouldn’t afffect cap until after next year when cap is higher and skinner hit reduced by 4 million benson 8x8, 5 million under cap beck 3x 2.5, 2.5 million under cap krebs 3 x 2.5, 0 million under the cap trade rights to kesselring theres no cpa space for tuch Another option is trade Norris, Byram, mrtka for Thomas. This would put us 6 million under cap. If you do this and trade greenway somehow You now have the $10m for Tuch 2 1 Quote

It’s the right move This has been my personal take for a while and I was glad to see Jarmo being so adamant about the top four being the strength of this team now and going forward. His thoughts on Benson had me grinning from ear to ear; did not think our stoic GM had that kind of enthusiasm in him. But couple that with his obvious belief in our young forwards and it sure supports your point. Also, easily the most revelatory presser Jarmo has held in terms of what he thinks about what he has. He got me excited about the future again after feeling some trepidation this was lining up to be an ‘06 repeat, meaning something we won’t be able to keep together. 6 Quote
thewookie1 Posted May 20 Report Posted May 20 Benson likely gets a contract similar to Doan 2 1 1 Quote

It sounded like he felt the organization was deficient in certain administrative roles but I don’t want to read too much into it. I think he said something to the effect that “we feel we were a little deficient in certain areas.” 2 1 Quote

It’s the right move Agree...they have Östlund, Helenius and Kulich ready to be on the team next year, they have to make the tough decisions there...the D was the engine of the team and it makes no sense to break those Top 4 up, especially when Byrum is great in the playoffs. 1 Quote

Stanley - no wonder he didn't drop them. He was tame compared to his normal game were he seems to like dropping them. Carrick rushed back because the team needed him, and then got hurt again. He should be back next season. Edited May 20 by Pimlach 1 Quote
Taro T Posted May 20 Report Posted May 20 Really energized about the next season. Am still going to be sad to see Tuch gone, but he's gone unless he significantly changes what money he's willing to settle for. Am also interested in seeing how Ellis fits in the goalie mix next season. Sounds like unless something too good to pass up on becomes available, they're rolling it back and Levi will be somebody else's backup goalie next year. But it sounds like Kekalainen has significant expectations on how these guys will head into the summer, and they'll have the opportunity to show they warrant the high expectations he's put on them. Didn't hear Greenway's name mentioned by either Ruff nor Jarmo. Maybe just missed it, but he was about the only guy that didn't get named at all. 1 Quote

That is the issue with Tuch, consistencey. $10m per year isn't what it used to be, but it still is elite (or close to elite) money. If you want $10m+ per year, ESPECIALLY on a contact that will take you to age 36-38, you better show up and make a difference in EVERY playoff series you play. 4 Quote
_Q_ Posted May 20 Report Posted May 20 Kinda odd, I don't think Jarmo or Lindy brought up Tage by name once. Lindy certainly alluded to his careless mistakes though. 1 Quote
Ross Rhea Posted May 20 Report Posted May 20 Sign Tuch for 8-9 per then package Tuch, Kesselring, Levi, Ryan Johnson and two 1st for McDavid 1 2 Quote
