What was the NHL thinking having Carolina/Philly playing 2 games before Buffalo/Mtl series started?

Now with the Carolina sweep, they’re done before Buffalo series plays game 3.  If this series goes 7 games, Game 7 is scheduled for the 18th.  Earliest they’d start Conf Finals would be the 20th.   That would be 10 days off for Carolina.

Carolina looks like a hockey machine, if there were such a thing.

While if the Sabres series goes 7 games, they COULD start the next round on the 20th, really doubt they would.  They've been giving teams 2 days off before starting their next series and really expect they'd continue to do that.  So, the Canes might have 11 days off before facing the Sabres.  Should be good and rusty by then; just how we like 'em.  😉

If they're smart, they'll scrimmage against Colorado, which should wrap things up soon.

First, as Spndnchz, said TV is involved

Second, arena availability is involved

Third, sweeps played a part

In 2005/2006, Buffalo had seven days off, Carolina six before their series.

Till this day I haven’t seen any data indicating if a long break is good or bad for a team.

It’s really not a big deal. I know a lot of people like to blame the NHL but they are dealing with a lot of unknown variables.

Where does the puck stop?

The back of the net so far for the Canadiens.

Can something be called a snafu if it’s done on purpose?

Can they do that? Can 2 teams schedule a scrimmage against each other during the season/playoffs? I would think it would be against the CBA to do that?

Unless there's something in the CBA, I don't see why not.  It's really just a joint practice.  But then it occurs to me that they probably plan to play each other in the final, and don't want to share their secrets, so never mind.
