That’s our Lindy…..a day late and a dollar short  I’d still separate Dahlin from TNT though….they’re both too prone to making turnovers at the blue line.

I don't think I care what players they put on the ice if they insist on dropping the puck below the equator, and then having 4 guys just stand there like turds watching the one guy cough it up.

There's a philosophical problem with the way it's ran, and I don't think they can change that overnight

I'd be shocked if it's UPL. What a terrible spot to put him in. Lose Game 3 and Lyon isn't Lyon... maybe. Right now it would be a panic move IMHO.

Lyon didn’t play poorly last night.

I never trust Lindy to make the right lineup decisions.....Lyon wasn't his best last night, but his floor is still higher than UPL's.

He didn’t play great, either. I would argue he also didn’t look as rock solid and in control in game 1 as he did in the Boston series. At the end of the season when his game tailed off before his injury he looked really bad for a stretch of games in a row. In the regular season it would definitely be UPL after a game like that. I’m not advocating for a switch, but I can understand the reasoning to consider it.

I wouldn't call it a panic move, but it sure is an interesting talking point.

If this was the regular season there's no doubt in my mind UPL would be going in; it's what Lindy did all year.

You had one of the talking heads on the Canadian broadcast last night (Kelly Hrudey?) talking about how UPL is the franchise's number one and the team will need to give him the net sometime.

I don't agree with that take, but I do agree that Lyon has a history of dropping off under a heavy workload; it's something he's acknowledged himself.

I also agree with your point that it's a tough spot to put UPL in; That said, he's thrived in the spot most of the year, and its exactly the spot they put Lyon in —successfully — in game 3 against Boston.

Goalie guru Kevin Woodley was just talking about this on the PDOcast: how a majority of teams have evolved to 1A/1B systems and have had regular season success in that system. But teams are still wired to pick a guy and ride him throughout the playoffs because that is what they've always done. He points out the issue is that often means asking a guy to do something he hasn't done before in terms of workload and preparation and goalies are creatures of habit.

My brain says do what worked for you all year, including Boston, and make the switch. My gut says Lyon feels right.

Hope Bales and Lindy and know their guys well enough to make the right call.

Regardless, his play didn’t warrant being benched for next game. That said, I wouldn’t put anything past Lindy.

I agree, but I think he probably gets a quick hook if he looks shaky and it looks like the beginning of a spiral, similar to game 2 in Boston.

Especially not with as many good saves he made in the 3rd period late.

Hard for me to get emotional.

Early December looked like Sabres would be battling the Leafs for last place. To say they've exceeded my expectations since is an understatement. Still somewhat in shock.

Doesn't mean I'm satisfied but it gives Jarmo a good idea what he has going forward.

Up to the boys to find some inner fortitude and compete harder without the blatant turnovers.

They can win on the road. We know that.

Watching..

If the Canadians are up 2-1 after playing Lyon in Game 3, you don't think dropping UPL in for Game 4 would be a panic move?  Switching now is more like what they did during the season.

Any word on Beck’s cut hand?

This is the playoffs.  You go with the goalie you think is most likely to get you the win.  We'll find out soon enough which goalie Lindy thinks that is.

Yeah but the whole team--with a couple exceptions-- was really bad last night.  I think the right move is just flush the game, play Lyon, and see where we are after game 3.

Just seeing Helenius in the practice lines make my hear a-flutter.

Probably a moot point since looks like Lyon had the starter's net, but sometimes you can change the psyche of the team by switching out the goalie.
