sabresouth Posted May 6 Report Posted May 6 Going to be a good one. Fast fast fast game. Plays into our strength. LET'S GO SABRES!!!! Quote
Taro T Posted May 6 Report Posted May 6 FYI, according to DTv, it looks like for those in the local market that the normal MSG-B pregame and postgame shows will still air. Doesn't help those who are watching the game out of town that normally can't watch the pre- or post-game shows, but for those that typically can watch them, it looks like MSG will be airing them. PASabreFan Posted May 6 Report Posted May 6 Per sabres.com: Pregame and Postgame Shows featuring Brian Duff and Martin Biron will air on MSG and the Sabres App along with the team's X, Facebook and YouTube channels. The pregame show begins at 6:30 p.m. 1 Quote

I’ve got some Habs friends who said we play fast but not as tough as Tampa and that plays into their hands. No, a speed game plays into ours. 1 2 Quote

Scottysabres Posted May 6 Report Posted May 6 Puck possession, we must have it. Shots on net, pepper their net, we must have it. Force Cuckfield and Suzuki to the outside, railing them against the boards, we must have it. A win, we must have it. 1 1 Quote

Big Guava Posted May 6 Report Posted May 6 Grok has entered the chat to weigh in! Sabres (1A, 50-23-9, 109 pts) vs. Canadiens (3A, 48-24-10, 106 pts) in the 2026 Eastern Conference Second Round. Buffalo has home-ice advantage; the series starts today (May 6) in Buffalo. Both teams are young, skilled Atlantic rivals who split their regular-season series 2-2-0. The Sabres beat the Bruins 4-2 in Round 1; the Canadiens beat the Lightning 4-3. This is a very close, high-skill matchup between two rebuilding teams that have emerged as future powers. Buffalo feels like a slight favorite due to depth, 5v5 play, and home ice, but Montreal’s special teams and goaltending hot streak make it coin-flip territory. Many previews call it extremely even. Offensive Matchup Sabres edge overall, especially at 5v5. Buffalo had a strong regular season (~3.45 GF/G, top-5-ish) and dominated 5v5 play against Boston (high xGF%, zone time, shot shares). Key weapons include a top line of Tage Thompson (consistent 40+ goal scorer), Alex Tuch, and Peyton Krebs (they outscored Boston badly). The defense provides huge offensive contributions: Rasmus Dahlin (Norris-caliber, ~70+ pts regular season), Owen Power, and Bowen Byram (Sabres had multiple 40+ pt D-men). They have depth with 10+ players hitting 40 pts in the regular season. Canadiens are also high-powered (~3.40 GF/G) with star power: Cole Caufield (51 goals, career-high), Nick Suzuki (Selke finalist, two-way excellence), Juraj Slafkovsky, and dynamic rookie-ish or young pieces. Lane Hutson on defense is a game-changer offensively (leads in various chance/play-driving metrics). Their top line was quiet vs. Tampa at even strength and needs to bounce back. Montreal relies more on special teams and individual skill. Edge: Sabres at 5v5 due to depth, shot quality, and defensive activation. Montreal can match or exceed if their stars click and PP delivers. Defensive Matchup Both teams have strong, mobile blue lines with star D-men (Dahlin vs. Hutson is a highlight—both drive play exceptionally). Buffalo’s top-four (Dahlin, Power, Byram, Samuelsson) has been excellent in playoffs (high xGF%, multiple contributors). Montreal’s group is solid and supported by good structure. Playoff numbers show both teams capable of low-event hockey when needed (Canadiens allowed very few shots in Game 7 vs. TBL). Sabres controlled play better vs. Boston. Faceoffs could matter (Montreal better in playoffs). Edge: Slight to Sabres for depth and recent 5v5 control, but very close. Both defenses can suppress or activate offense. Goaltending Hot streak battle. Alex Lyon (Sabres, 33): Took over in Round 1 (relief in Game 2/3), posted elite numbers (~1.14 GAA, .955 SV% in limited starts, strong high-danger and 5v5 SV%). Cerebral, aggressive style; has been a stabilizer. Jakub Dobes (Canadiens, 24, rookie): Starter all series vs. TBL, strong .923 SV%, 2.03 GAA, stole Game 7 with 28/29 saves on low shots. Hot late season and playoffs; mobile, big frame, improved decision-making. Both have been standout in the postseason so far (Lyon ranks near top in several metrics; Dobes has hero moments). Depth behind them exists but starters are locked in. Edge: Near even, with a tiny nod to Lyon’s experience and recent dominance, but Dobes’ heroics make it a wash. One or two big saves could decide games. Prediction This should be a long, entertaining, back-and-forth series with tight games, strong goaltending, and star moments. Special teams (Montreal’s better PP vs. Buffalo’s poor one) could be a differentiator, but Buffalo’s 5v5 strength and home ice are bigger factors. Sabres’ depth and ability to control play give them the nod. Sabres in 6 or 7. I lean Sabres in 7—home advantage, better even-strength play, and defensive depth wear down Montreal in a grinder. Montreal has the upset potential if their top line and PP explode or Dobes steals the series. Expect high emotion in both buildings. 2 1 Quote

FrenchConnection44 Posted May 6 Report Posted May 6 All I care about is two things: 1) however many games the series is, just win the last game. 2) if 1, come out of the series healthy with no major injuries. 1 Quote

It wasn't a...hey we made the playoffs - weeee. They took another step and proved they can hang. I fully expect 7 games and really hope they can get the first win out of the way tonight. Not me. 6 hours ago, SwampD said: Absolutely (although, we’ll see how I feel at 6:59.) We could lose in the playoffs, just not to Boston, and not in the first round. We’re playing with house money now. I am all in to beat Montreal in the series. So I will be a nervous pain in the ass watching the game tonight. Why should we accept winning one round? We want the Cup. I am tired of waiting for next year. Treat every opportunity like it may be your last. 1 2 1 Quote
