Btw, you do realize that AI is the lazy person's Wiki, right? Im not a lawyer and know nothing of criminal statutes. The NHL isn’t professional wrestling where everyone is in on the fixed outcome. Surely nobody thinks the Calgary Flames, to pick one team that could really use a 1st overall pick, are in on the fixed outcome of the Leafs winning the lottery. Two Cleveland Guardian pitchers have lost their careers and face up 20 years in prison for conspiring to not throw a strike on pre-determined pitches in MLB games. Rigging the NHL draft lottery would be, I think, a substantially more serious offence. Edited May 6 by Archie Lee Quote
Second Line Center Posted May 6 Report Posted May 6 Just now, Taro T said: When is the last time the NFL held a "draft lottery?" And far more interestingly, when's the last time NFL fans have been shrieking over their team getting hosed by the non-existant draft lottery? Yea he’s wrong on that but his overall point is fair. The NFL is unique. The MLB the draft just isn’t as significant. Only the NBA and NHL have a lotto bc one player can make that big a difference and if it benefits them to have that player “where needed” it’s been way more suspect then seems legit. 1 Quote

Second Line Center Posted May 6 Report Posted May 6 (edited) I still believe to this day there was ZERO chance the league was going to let McDavid play in Buffalo - a direct rival to Toronto. For those asking “well why put McDavid in Edmonton?” Thats why. So yes I’m a lotto skeptic. Edited May 6 by Second Line Center 1 1 1 1 Quote

PerreaultForever Posted May 6 Report Posted May 6 I hate to think these things are fixed but, I mean, really? and right after they name their new GM? I had wanted the Kraken to win tbh. Despite being an expansion team they've never had a first overall. 1 1 Quote
TageMVP Posted May 6 Report Posted May 6 Its rigged for Toronto Friedman just direct messaged me and said Bettman feels terrible for Toronto and HQ is there and Stanley Cups won in 1967 dont count because there was like one other team. Bettman is sick of the Canadian team to overall teams in the NHL ratio so he had to do something Also said people will forgive the direct rigging because Toronto sucks This from Elliotte Friedman directly quoting Larry Bettman so you know its legitimate big time 1 Quote

Let me take 3 guesses I love being in the vast minority because I took the stance of us “not being actively and intentionally screwed by a grand conspiracy and cover-up, of which there’s never been a shred of actual evidence ever presented” a real eye opener and a fine how-do-you-do, indeed Election rigging is hilarious (assuming he is implying in the US) ... the US government can't even fart without 15 whistle blowers ... the astronomical amount of people that would need to be involved in enough statewide elections to fix a country-wide election should alone prove that it is not possible. Besides, the person whom I am guessing they are claiming was wronged (just going by username) is now, literally, in charge of the WHOLE GOVERNMENT and has access to every single classified top secret document ever made. Unless a person that was not in power was able to rig allllllllllllllllll of that without anyone at any level of government knowing ... nah, ya know what? No. Everything is a conspiracy when you understand nothing. (I am a licensed professional structural engineer and thousands of dopes on the interwebs claiming "jet fuel doesn't burn hot enough to melt steel" still ruffles every single last one of my feathers and always will.) 1 hour ago, Taro T said: Don't suppose you nor your AI Agent could actually cite a statute that a rigged lottery would be in actual violation of, could you? Btw, you do realize that AI is the lazy person's Wiki, right? Not to fuel the fire, but I would imagine there are racketeering or other types of "mob" laws in place that could be used? Unless every owner in the NHL signed off on it, those who did not could certainly claim some sort of injustice has been perpetrated against them? I am thinking about the executives for the failed VC Summer nuclear power plant that went to jail for misrepresenting the extent of their progress to investors. From listening to the "Scamanda" podcast, the IRS has something like a 95% conviction rate when they decide to go after people ... I mean heck - remember that person that sued McDonald's because their coffee was too hot? (Yes, I realize I am greatly over-simplifying that lawsuit ... but my general point stands - lawsuits in the US are very common) (And double-yes, I realize a civil suit is not the same as a criminal charge, but again I ask the court for a bit of leeway as I make my case here ...) Wyldnwoody44 Posted May 6 Report Posted May 6 Know what's really great about all of this? It's annoying that the leafs get to brag a little (already had a couple Toronto friends message me) BUT I don't give 1 singular flying F. We are "checks notes" about to start round 2 of the playoffs tomorrow and I think Matthews is prepping for his off-season colonic. So yeah, take McKenna or whatever and let the Honorable Mr. Chayka F that all up. 1 1 Quote
PerreaultForever Posted May 6 Report Posted May 6 If it was me, I'd draft Stenberg but there's an argument to be made for McKenna as well. San Jose already has good forwards but is desperate for D so I do wonder if they won't take Verhoeff with pick two. Quote
Scottysabres Posted May 6 Report Posted May 6 Meh, don’t really care one way or……any other for that matter. And just a friendly reminder, our Sabres have two 1st overall all picks on our roster, Dahlin and Power. 2 defensemen vs what is most likely to be 2 forwards for the Leafs. I like our D over their O. Trettioåtta Posted May 6 Report Posted May 6 EY is worth more than the NHL, and have far bigger clients than the NHL. They aren't risking their professional reputation - especially when they have close competition on all work from Deloitte, PWC and KPMG - to help Toronto with a leg up. I was hoping Boston would get Toronto's pick, but oh well. Quote
