I remember this series and Habs players crying that the Sabres were : four 3rd lines with a superstar goalie.

Which was a bit harsh.  They were 4 meh SECOND lines with a superstar goalie.  😉

Provided we don't see Carrick, I'd really like to see Helenius in for Kozak. Play him maybe 7 or 8 minutes and sub in Krebs whenever we need the 4th line to really "4th line".

At the same time, you could plug him in for Krebs on the 1st line to give him a breather and/or give the Canadiens something different to worry about.

We'll see Carrick.  And I was thinking Helenius for (where) Östlund (was).

Helenius has great speed and I wouldn't be at all surprised if Lindy uses him against the Habs because of that.

An interesting topic of discussion after the season is how would one rank our three young players of Östlund, Kulich and Helenius in comparison to one another. I really like all three of them and would hate to see any of them dealt away. From the little I saw of Helenius, I was really impressed.

Helenius, Östlund/Kulich.

I don’t think we see Noah again until next year.

If he was healthy, he comes in as the 4C for Kozak, but also goes back in PP1.

if Carrick is also available, I wonder if they’d put him in for Kozak and sit McLeod for Östlund?

Based on round 1, that would be the right move.

McLeod is to valuable on the PK, my guess is Zucker or Quinn sit for Östlund with Carrick as the 4c.  They could try sitting Greenway creating a 4th line of Östlund, Carrick and Malenstyn.  That might be very fun to watch.

You don't sit a finisher like Zuck or Quinn for a distributer like Östlund IMO.  I would rather swap Östlund for McLeod and find a PK replacement.

As long as we had the bodies that can PK (and we do), I'd love to see us roll out a legit scoring line as a 4th line... Malenstyn being the notable exception.

I know the school of thought is you NEED a 4th line, but anytime Team Canada has had their 12 best offensive forwards in the lineup, they've steamrolled everyone, whereas when they try to get clever and use role players, it's close or they lose.

Malenstyn, Östlund, and Helenius would wreak havoc on opposing 4th liners. Plus we have Krebs who doesn't play any special teams who can fill in as needed.

You mean the two guys that combined for zero goals in the 1st rd. You’d only have to sit one of Zucker or Quinn, not both and with guys like Norris, McLeod, Doan, Tage, and Tuch, we have plenty of other finishers.  Neither Quinn or Zucker work on the PK and neither has helped the PP.  To Quinn’s credit, he has worked harder and the 2 way game vs Zucker and has 3 assists.

We need Östlund and his playmaking to help get our depth goals scorers (Zucker, Norris, McLeod and Quinn going).

I agree, but you bench McLeod and insert Östlund.  McLeod has underperformed for awhile and I would be moving on from him for Östlund/Kulich/Helenius in the offseason.

They are not benching McLeod. If he is a healthy scratch this post season, I will give someone club seats to the game after he sits.

Fair point, but if that is the case then Östlund, if healthy, will be first man in if there is an injury.  IMO

First, its unlikely Östlund plays anytime soon. High ankle sprains are killers.

Second, most of the danger with Montreal is their power play and McLeod, while struggling offensively, is one of their top pk guys.

Underperforming?   McLeod isn’t scoring in the playoffs yet, but he just completed his highest scoring season ever with 54 points.  How many other teams have a 54 point 3C?   Östlund is gone, maybe McLeod gets going this series

Add to this his penalty kill skills, he leads the NHL in short handed goals.
