Apollo Posted May 4 Report Posted May 4 That's a great Sabres "Clip" (get it)? I too remember watching that series on a black and white TV, and what a memorable series. Hockey was great in Buffalo then and I remember being so excited every day while the playoffs were going on. Thank for posting this. 1 Quote

Captain Caveman Posted May 4 Report Posted May 4 My wife and I are traveling to Montreal this Thursday - Monday (anniversary trip, planned months ago.) Tickets for the game on Sunday are probably out of my reach (and she probably doesn't want to spend Mother's Day in a rink after the other 100+ days she's spent in rinks this year for the kids) Is it weird / bad vibes to go to an opposing team's watch party should they have one Friday at the Bell Centre? 1 Quote

Is she a Sabres fan? That would significantly change my answer. If yes, not sure I’d go to the watch party. Who cares about vibes, I just think it would be a little weird (I already find them a little weird to begin with.) If not, I’d go see some music and get a nice dinner. The crowds will be a breeze. There will be plenty of other games to watch. 1 Quote

I’ll be in Montreal as well Sunday - Wednesday. Planning on going to game 4 but looking for an establishment to watch Sundays game with hopefully some Sabres fans. Would there be a Sabres backers bar in Montreal? Let me know if you hear of anything. 1 Quote

Agree that it's better than the AI attempt at reviving the song. But it's still a far cry from the original. Why include Ellis when so many of the regulars are missed? Eh, 1st world problems. 1 Quote

Correct in thinking no game, but it wasn’t really fancy. Very high quality food though. Definitely not stuffy or anything like that Quote

Carmel Corn Posted May 4 Report Posted May 4 It should be a fun series to watch, but I fully expect Montreal’s PP to awaken against Buffalo. Suzuki and Caufield will wake up in the process, which will be bad news for Buffalo. Our PP will still stink to high heaven. I also don’t think LIndy will be up to the challenge of beating the Habs….so Montreal in 6. 1 1 Quote

Seems logical. I am happy to not deal with Vasy Kooch and Coop. But I can't help but think we are playing a version of ourselves, whilst TB is old news. 2 Quote
Taro T Posted May 4 Report Posted May 4 2 minutes ago, Doohickie said: Looking around at the pundits, they seem to think the Sabres will have an easier time with the Habs than they would have with TBL. Well, the pundits (in general) know TB pretty well (or at least they know Tampa's past self pretty well) and don't know squat about the Sabres and likely don't know much about the Habs either. They definitely haven't watched any Sabres Habs games from the past few years and only know Sabres TB from the myriad highlights of 8-7. Yes, a few have been forced to call a few games of the Sabres, but the Sabres have for the past few years continuously spit the bit when the pundits actually had their interest piqued. Would give the opinion of a serious fan of the Habs on how the series might go far more credibility than would give the talking heads. The Hab fan has at least watched closely how these 2 teams have played each other. The pundits, not so much. When there's Panthers and Loafs and Eulers to follow and dissect; why would they learn about either of those 2 lowly also rans? Btw, did you hear that Ovechkin might not be back? That's a FAR more interesting story than EITHER of the teams fighting for Adams supremacy. 😒 1 Quote

I agree that they are more familiar with TBL's playoff history than the Hab's scant history and the Sabres' non-existent recent history. They will tend to weigh TBL's ability to perform in the playoffs over that of the two upstarts despite the recent streak of TBL first round exits. 1 Quote
dudacek Posted May 4 Report Posted May 4 (edited) Playoffs are all about matchups, so I wouldn’t be putting much emphasis on what happened in the first round. Montreal’s best players lost the 5-on-5 battles to Tampa’s best, but they won the battle further down the lineup. Not sure I see that happening against Buffalo; I prefer our middle six. Montreal/Buffalo games in the regular season were high octane and a treat to watch. I suspect we will see far more rush chances, which benefits both teams offensively. Down the stretch saw a lot of Habs fans worried about the Sabres because we matched their speed and beat them in size. I can buy that. I hope out PK is strong enough to balance our PP. It’s certainly an area I’d attack if I was Montreal. Wild card for me is goaltending. Lyon has shown he struggles under a heavy workload. Dobes has never had the kind of run he’s on at any level. If one team gets clearly better goaltending, that team probably wins. If it’s close in net, I think the Sabres transition/puck pressure game will be better than the Habs over 7 games and I expect to see that type of series. This is going to be a tough out, but I’m feeling optimistic about our chances. Edited May 4 by dudacek 4 1 Quote
