Taro T Posted June 3 Report Posted June 3 There's a reason these trophies are called "awards" and not "earneds." When the criteria to determine the winner are subjective, the most deserviing winner doesn't always win. Only the Stanley Cup, the Presidents' Trophy, the Prince of Wales, the Campbell Bowl, the Art Ross, the Rocket Richard, and the Jennings are earned. And even they aren't ALWAYS earned. It's cool when our favorites win these and the other awards, but can't really get too bunged up about them not winning things they deserve. Deserve often has nothing to do with it. 1 1 Quote
SabresVet Posted June 3 Report Posted June 3 I find it funny that 8 of the last 10 Jack Adams award winners were fired within 4 years of winning. Brind'Amour being the exception and last year's winner, Spencer Carberry. Quote
shrader Posted June 3 Report Posted June 3 Just remember this in the future when you want to rant about any of these awards. Taro said it better, but they're a complete joke and they have very little meaning. 1 Quote
HumanSlinky39 Posted June 3 Report Posted June 3 (edited) LOL, this is a joke. Cooper has a team loaded with elite talent that is a perennial playoff team (with 4 straight 1st round exits, BTW), who had a very typical Tampa season. I'd love to hear the reasoning for this because there is none whatsoever. Edited June 3 by HumanSlinky39 1 3 Quote

He essentially won for his solid coaching over the years. To rationalize him being voted for the award this year is impossible. I would love to see the voting by all who chose among the three finalists. He would have been third by a wide margin in any logical sense. His whining both post Olympics and during the season and playoffs has certainly diminished his respect in my opinion. But apparently it bolstered his case for voters 🤷🏻♂️ 2 1 Quote
Big Guava Posted June 3 Report Posted June 3 Absolute disgrace. Those voters should be banned from voting for life. 1 Quote

People with an agenda had to have made this happen. Quote
pastajoe Posted June 3 Report Posted June 3 Why are they announcing winners now? Are they no longer doing the awards show? 1 Quote
JoeSchmoe Posted June 3 Report Posted June 3 I get strong vibes that gushing on Jon Cooper by media members is a virtue signal. It's to say "I'm so knowledgeable about hockey because I can appreciate how knowledgeable Jon Cooper is." Somewhere along the lines it became a thing and it stuck. This is the same guy who rode McDavid, MacKinnon, and Celebrini into the ground to at the Olympics, even though he had many other perfectly good and rested options on the bench. I don't get it. 1 Quote
Forecheck Posted June 3 Report Posted June 3 For what’s its worth these were the initial voting totals when the voters originally settled on their 3 top vote getters for coach of the year according to an April 14th article from NHL.com. Not sure if a different set of voters actually voted on the winner once the 3 nominees were chosen or if they were the same voters but changed their votes for the “official” trophy vote. Voting totals (points awarded on a 5-4-3-2-1- basis): Lindy Ruff, Sabres, 67 points (11 first-place votes); Jon Cooper, Lightning, 49 (one); Dan Muse, Penguins, 40 (three); Joel Quenneville, Anaheim Ducks, 22 (one); Jared Bednar, Avalanche, 18; Marco Sturm, Boston Bruins, 17; Martin St. Louis, Canadiens, 10; Ryan Warsofsky, San Jose Sharks, 6; Rod Brind'Amour, Carolina Hurricanes, 4; Rick Bowness, Columbus Blue Jackets, 3; Glen Gulutzan, Stars, 2; Rick Tocchet, Philadelphia Flyers, 1; Andrew Brunette, Nashville Predators, 1 1 1 Quote

Punch Posted June 3 Report Posted June 3 It feels like a slap in the face. Lindy's case checked every box. I'm astonished and disgusted. 3 Quote
oddoublee Posted June 3 Report Posted June 3 I wasn't gonna post anything...but f it. Let's be f'n real; It's a lifetime achievement award for cooper. Nothing more. If ruff had never won one at this point, he probably gets it. That's how asinine the jack Adams award is. Truth be told, Lindy should probably have 3 of these under his belt. Sports writers are the worst from a content, rumours and voting perspective. I'll stick to reading all of your knucklehead posts over them (yes, I'm a knucklehead too) 1 3 Quote
RETURNTOGLORY Posted June 3 Report Posted June 3 (edited) What has occurred with the Buffalo Sabres this year was not only nearly unprecedented BUT unexpected as well. Cooper has won TWO Stanley cups! This year's TB version also has no less than three superstars on the roster. For a team that's missed the playoffs the past 14 years to have the stunning turnaround that they have achieved, was remarkable. AND the owned Tampa Bay this year. I'm sorry, but the NHL awards are now mirroring the NFL awards. Edited June 4 by RETURNTOGLORY 1 1 Quote
Wyldnwoody44 Posted June 3 Report Posted June 3 Lolz, after not giving Hamlin the comeback player award, I am not at all surprised at all by any of this crap. I hope the team is fired up by this slight, not sure it will translate, but would be awesome to see. It's poppycock, no way around it, but I was half expecting this too. 1 Quote
Weave Posted June 3 Report Posted June 3 Media voted on this, right? My take is, this is how the Sabres system is perceived around the league. “River hockey”. I’m guessing that the view elsewhere is our system is a gimmick, and not a “real” system. Quote
