Next man up mentality is what is being said in the room, imo.

I like Östlund a lot but it’s not like they lost a 1C, 1D or 1G. Even those kind of losses need to be put aside and move forward.

Östlund was playing better than Norris, is better than Kozak and Dunne but it’s not like losing McJesus and hoping Henrique can pick up the slack. I know when the margin of victory is very slim every small advantage helps. There is depth on this team and this will test it. Those scratches are chomping at the bit to get in, here is their chance to make an impact and stay in the lineup.

If Carrick can come back in the next round, that will be a nice addition to the C spine.

This 100%

Better to think positive and look forward to seeing how a good team with depth deals with it. Sabres are a good team and still have depth.

I’d hate to see some of you under any kind of real stress. If we can’t win a playoff series without Noah Östlund we don’t deserve to win a playoff series. That goes for every single player on the Sabres. Is the city and fandom that mentally weak or have we just forgot what the playoffs are? Goodness gracious, it’s everywhere.

There is no denying that the Östlund injury is a bad thing. But the Sabres need to embrace their inner-Walter White here.

I am very entertained by NHL hockey. The sport is fast constant action with guys who are badass athletes and don't take chit from anybody

There is something about it that is exhilarating and I Love it

The fact it makes my hair gray and my nails short is a ME Problem. Yes it is entertainment with a lot of drama on skates

Entertainment he says LOL

I think Sabres fans want success so badly it fogs their memories of just how good this team is. Especially after a tough loss.

I say curb stomp the Bruins. They are trifling.  I want this series OVER

Losing Östlund sucks. But they can do it without him. Believe it.

Everyone remembers that 2006 playoff exit as wildly disappointing bc the backups didn’t step up.  Those injuries were just part of “routine playoff hockey!”

Norris, Östlund, Carrick.  Center depth has been pushed.  It’s game 6 of round 1.

But it’s just routine playoff hockey I guess.

Soft take.  Goodness.  Just let me vent.

Vent as much as you'd like.

The glass 1/2 full view is:

Norris will play on Friday.  Expecting he'll be effective.  Even if he's not 100%, having 12 F's taking their normal ice and roles will help significantly vs game 5.

Carrick MIGHT be back sometime in the 2nd round.

Unlike the '06 D injuries, guys are coming back into the lineup.  AND while you never want to see a single position take that much talent off the ice, the Sabres are actually deep at C.  Thompson, Norris, McLeod, Carrick as the normal 4 plus Östlund, Kozak, Helenius, and even Dunne available as true C's.  Plus Krebs has been a C, Tuch essentially often plays in his own end as a C, and expect Benson could do it in a pinch too.  That's a lot of depth.  It's actually a crazy amount of depth for that spot.

Skate fast on Friday and have a solid forecheck and then we very likely get to worry about Habs or Bolts starting early next week.

The fan base in Buffalo is extremely dedicated and dying for a winner.   Because of the past they are also equally fragile.    The 14 year drought is the foundation for this fragility.   The emergence of the Bills (and Bills Mafia-ness) adds a layer.   The disappointment of the Bills in the playoffs adds a layer.   Added pressure brought on by social media adds a layer.

I fall into those categories, too, but we aren’t on the brink of elimination and have played very well in Boston. The time to freak out is Saturday and Sunday if we lose on Friday. It’s all unnecessary stress otherwise. We quickly went from talking about who we want to play in round two to the sky falling because we lost a middle center who barely played half the season to begin with. Everything can be tempered a bit is all I’m saying.

One goal? That's fixed???

We scored didn't we?

We weren't happy scoring 6 5v5 goals because we didn't score on the power play. Now we have a power play goal.

Love the guy who tells everyone how they should root for their team. Why don't you cheer the way you want and everyone else can cheer the way they want.

I’m keeping it to this thread only.

Like I said without him we could still win this series but to win a Cup we obviously need health and Josh Norris to not be hurt.

I made it perfectly clear going in as everyone said they’d be good if we win a round that this team can actually win the whole thing.

Threads to post in.  Spaces between paragraphs - which by the way look different every time I type and space.  Sometimes 1 space looks like I didn’t space at all.

I would argue, in addition to those 2 things, there is an unspoken fear this season could be a one-off so many fans feel like we need to wring every drop of success out of it that we can. Unlike the 2005-2006 Sabres, or the late 80s and late 2010s Bills, between Tuch, the goal tending and the coaching, for a young team that should be on the rise this team has a fair bit of uncertainty surrounding it after this season… That splash you heard is me gleefully tossing a big ol’ turd in the punch bowl. 😂

Back to the essence of the thread.  Really hope Noah can make it back for the finals!

Just think, the Sabrez make it into round two, survive, and proceed to round three, they stand to get Östlund and Carrick back.

I'm disappointed Östlund is out but I'm not sure there's any meaningful data sampled in this tweet.

41-13 with Östlund and no Norris.

18-2 with both.

12-8 with Norris no Östlund.

That seems very meaningful.

The silver lining here is in 2026-27 the center spine could / should be:

McDavid

Tage

Östlund

McCleod

Carrick

More on this in the weeks ahead.
