PASabreFan Posted April 22 Report Posted April 22 (edited) Sorry, was going to go with, The seven most terrifying words in the English language but decided to pay homage to Carlin. YOUR SABRES ARE ON THE POWER PLAY! Or is it Buffalo Sabres? This is less a rant on the poo poo platter and more of a why do we need to be told? Is this more Guelli going after football fans? OverPowerYou Posted April 22 Report Posted April 22 The PA announcer isn’t even that enthusiastic about it. It’s more of an announcement. Quote

Jay Moran is very low energy. You can tell when he strains to sound amped up, like he makes his announcement of doom. Quote
Pimlach Posted April 22 Report Posted April 22 I don't know what you want to talk about? - The power play is a big problem. The solution does not appear to be in the room. - Why does Guelli have anything to do with this? Buffalo sport fans are all Bills fans. The Buffalo fans that love baseball, basketball, hockey, golf, lacrosse - they are all Bills fans. The Sabres were dormant for 14-15 years. That's all they had. You went last night. I was hoping you got another May Day game. What were the highlights of your game experience and what are the concerns? Quote

And we all know which perfectly coiffed someone we're talking about. BUT the team DID actually score A 6 on 5 goal. IIRC that's only the 2nd time they did so the entire season. And it's 2 more goals than they've had with a 5v3. And the PP being hot garbage is one of 2 items that could sink this ship and we got it and the other one in spades last night. (Apologies for the mixing of metaphors.) But we knew they weren't going to sweep the B's. Win at least 1 of the next 2 (even though the PP won't likely give them any help) and all is good. Win both in Beantown and game 5 could be fun. 5 1 Quote

Going back to the dawn of the franchise, Sabres fans didn't need to be told the team was on the power play. That's Nashville and Florida junk. Highlights? Not a one. I did take a nice pic of the RJ Way sign. And I didn't get a ticket in dark and rainy Springville when I turned left into Tops parking lot on a red light despite a police car being about 100 yards behind me. 1 Quote

But Coach Clueless uses "analytics" to help him devise the masterful creations we've seen them execute so flawlessly all season but in particular these past 7 or so games now. It MUST work. It's the players just aren't doing it right. The system, much like his hair, is PERFECT, And speaking of execution, that recalls an old John McKay quote early in his tenure as TB's head coach when asked what he thought of his team's execution. Response: "I'm in favor of it." That being back when they were on their 26 game losing streak to start the franchise's welcome to the NFL. 1 Quote

And while I do agree that the PP has been bad all season, I disagree that it won't get better if they have a breakthrough and get a couple of PP goals. The PP has been streaky and when they've gotten a goal or two on the PP, it's been hot for a couple of games before going back to being sh*t. Those streaks have been few and far between, but they have happened. On the rare occasions it's been successful, it's usually been Zucker slamming in a loose puck in front of the net. They need to simplify things and just get traffic in front and shoot the puck at the net. The Sabres' players are skilled enough to get a few shots off that are not blocked. This applies to 5 on 5 as well. They need more traffic in front of Swayman and more shots on net versus cross-ice passes to guys who are too "wide." The Krebs goal last night was a perfect example of traffic in front of the net leading to a goal. The first goal or two need to be of the garbage goal variety. If they can get a lead, Boston will need to take chances and that will open up the fast-paced goals on the rush that this Sabres team is known for. Quote

Maybe they did, but I thought it was readily apparent that once up four goals Boston abandoned their high pressure PK and just collapsed in the box during the last two power plays and during the 6 on 5 minutes. They follow the announcement up with either a "somebody give me a 'yeah'" or "somebody give me a hell yeah." Typically it was "gimme me a yeah" for the B&G games and "gimme a hell yeah: for the B&R games. Guess with no B&R games in the playoffs they decided to do the hell yeah regardless. And when they started that a couple years back, they'd use the hell yeah for night games and yeah for afternoon (aka kids friendly) games. 1 Quote
hockey Posted April 24 Report Posted April 24 (edited) This has probably already been covered, but I hate that more arenas are copying the Boston "WOOOO!" after a goal announcement. Piss off. Edited April 24 by hockey just because Quote

HoosierDaddy Posted April 24 Report Posted April 24 They announce power plays like that in Minnesota, too, and nobody would accuse them of not being a hockey market. Quote

But that would be one that you aren't going to get away with without catching heck.) Quote
