PASabreFan Posted April 7 Report Posted April 7 (edited) There were three seconds left in Benson's penalty. The attendant is standing, about to let Benson out. Maybe his hand is on the latch. You see it all the time. Left open? No. But the door apparently wasn't secured, and Holmberg's shoulder hit the edge of the board where it meets the door, and you can see door open. Terrible timing. Maybe a mistake by the attendant. Edited April 7 by PASabreFan 6 Quote
Flashsabre Posted April 7 Report Posted April 7 TB are the biggest whiny ***** in the league. Always dirty, always with the extra shot after the whistle yet the second something happens to them they are crying and moaning. 3 10 1 2 Quote
Sabrejak Posted April 7 Report Posted April 7 I just finished looking into it. Clean hit by Krebs. Unfortunate timing with the door operator. Case closed. Moving on. 2 3 Quote
Popular Post shrader Posted April 7 Popular Post Report Posted April 7 What exactly is the league going to do with such a major investigation? Does the door wind up getting sensitivity training so that it never does that again? 1 12 Quote
That Aud Smell Posted April 7 Report Posted April 7 good check, awkward fall, rotten luck, and an honest mistake. outside of the tampa bay lightning, the person who feels the worst about this is that penalty box door operator. oh, and jon cooper is an insufferable pr1ck. 3 2 2 1 Quote

I love the way the headlines and your thread title are written though. The league is investigating a door. They should go back and retroactively suspend the old aud Zamboni door while they’re at it. 3 1 Quote

shrader Posted April 7 Report Posted April 7 If you look closely, you can see Krebs wink at the door guy a few seconds later. I hope the league checks that guys bank account for any timely “donations”. 5 Quote
Taro T Posted April 7 Report Posted April 7 Shows just how much this season is different from seasons past. Back in the drought, Kulikov got hurt when the Sabres bench door opened on him as he was checked into it. Now, even the random breaks break the Sabres way as an opponent got injured on the penalty box door. These guys are good, scary good. 4 Quote

Pimlach Posted April 7 Report Posted April 7 NHL "investigators" will call Jarmo and he will tell them it was a mistake. The employee has over 967,000 door open and closes without incident. The corrective action is that the employee will take the league mandated door operator online training course again as a refresher. 1 7 Quote

LTS Posted April 7 Report Posted April 7 While it's entertaining to call out Cooper about his response the situation is dangerous. It's tough to say the latch should be undone with 4 seconds remaining in the penalty. Even in a crappy rink the latch only takes a split second to disengage and then to pull the door open enough is another second. Having it unlatched at 4 seconds does present a greater window in which something like this could happen. However, it's a fast game and things like this are always going to be possible. Cooper should be more aware of the words he uses because this is the Internet age and there are plenty of psychopaths on the Internet who will begin looking for personal information on the attendant and probably end up sending him threatening messages, etc. So if the NHL investigates it should be two fold: 1. Can we improve the policy on when a door latch should be disengaged when nearing the end of a penalty? 2. Can we provide training to coaches, etc. on how to NOT speak to the media regarding officials? After all, the penalty box attendant and those operating the scoring are all off-ice officials. The NHL should treat Cooper's comments no differently than if he was to call for a referee to lose his job. It would and should be a fine. 3 2 Quote

Nice narrative. Cooper made a point to say it's dangerous for both teams. Just like he said he thought the refs sucked the fun out of the game for the crowd and called a game that hurt both teams. 2 hours ago, inkman said: It's too bad they don't call the penalty box door a gate because I would enjoy Gategate. Rick said so and so "got the gate" a million times. 1 1 Quote
