In contrast to 22-23 where we picked up Greenway and Stillman; there is a genuine angle to the idea Jarmo was looking to reward his players. The whole Parayko situation was akin to saying we all going for it without actually losing assets in the process. But unlike KA, Jarmo still went shopping to bring in depth + a 4th line center even after his big fish swam away.

Do I think Schenn or Stanley are good, not really; but they do represent something. A playoff run. You don't trade for rental defenseman for the sake of it and arguably, barring Stanley really finding himself here I don't think either will be around after this year. The video even hints at Schenn's whole purpose is to bring another Cup winner in.

Carrick has certainly been a great pick up already; he's meshed very well with Malenstyn and seems to have the perfect personality to insert himself right into the crew. Even better he has another year at 1mil

As I agreed to earlier, the talk about revisiting the trade in the summer definitely strikes me as Robert Thomas. My guess would be it matters greatly on Tuch and how Norris holds up down the stretch.

Yeah, if Tuch is back, not sure how they bring in Thomas without trading away Norris.  And that was the beauty of the Parayko trade.  They have the ability to trade either Byram or Power and still have a solid/very good top 4 for several more seasons and at a discount after next year versus what the 4 they currently have would cost.  So maybe adding a trade of Greenway some of the other more expensive lower tier players they'd find the money to add Thomas (or the like) and not have to lose Tuch &/or Norris.

(And realize that next year is the year they're in a bit of a cap crunch, but Byram will cost a lot more after next year (when the cap isn't nearly as tight) than Parayko will.  And Parayko only costs $25k more than Bryam does next year.  Maybe the deal would've been trading away Power and having Byram "cheap" next year then more expensive the following years when they could afford it.)

The video was disappointing: very little insight or new material.

Schenn has a lotta kids, Jarmo gobbles candy, lots of content we've already seen from games or previous team-sponsored content.

Apparently Jarmo isn't interested in having marketing peel back the curtain.

We can revisit that in the offseason - I'm thinking that was about Thomas.

That was the highlight to me. I think we all hope it is Thomas but it could be anyone

I have to think a lot of it was probably going to be Thomas and Parayko based but when those deals fell through they had to cut that footage

Naw, it's good.  It's not like he's gonna score anyway, right?  😛

Prices were very high this deadline. Team lacked muscle. He got the muscle he could. Team lacked depth, especially on D. Team is now deep on D.

I can't think of a team that did better at the deadline except maybe Colorado who were gifted Kadri at the last minute.

Carrick was a nice get.

The others ?  Meh..

I think we’ve already established this things in the threads dedicated to analyzing the trades.  Isn’t this thread more about the behind the scenes stuff that happened?

We needed some toughness and faceoff ability added to our team. He did both. The swing for Thomas was big and can be revisited in offseason if needed. Stanley as a 5th or 6th D is right where he should be. Schenn is a 6th or extra and adds toughness during his 10ish minutes a game. Going after Dahlin will need to be addressed and will be by those guys. Makes entire team tougher and that will be important come playoffs.

So disappointed by Kesselring. He has been our worst dman when he plays. Hopefully that was the injuries and not who he is.

We are very deep on D once Timmins is back and can handle an injury if needed.

Yeah, Kekalainen doesn't seem to have the need to do his job in front of the cameras.

He hasn't set up any B&GI sessions either, at least to date.
