Standing Room Smoking Cigs Posted March 14 Report Posted March 14 (edited) It set a precedent for Buffalo that took forever to escape from, seen some responses on Toronto TV and had flashbacks, The Tage response last year was bad, I really think this cost hurt Adams, is Treveling next? GASabresIUFAN Posted March 14 Report Posted March 14 They were already near death and this was the final nail in the coffin. Now Matthews is out for the season. The truth about this version of the Leafs was their greed in getting Tavares forced them to lose soul players Hyman and Kadri while not fixing their actual problems in defense and on goal. Then they let their actual best player go in Marner. Now they are old and slow. What we found out about Matthews is that he needs someone to feed him the puck. Oh well. At least he earned a gold medal this season. Paid a high price for it. Quote
LGR4GM Posted March 14 Report Posted March 14 I don't think the Thompson hit cost Adams, but it certainly impacted Samuelsson and I think it ended up as a catalyst for the pack mentality they need. Toronto is done. They should sell this summer and rebuild. They lack heart and there isn't enough there to fix their issues. Defense wins championships. 1 Quote
Scottysabres Posted March 14 Report Posted March 14 There is a huge difference between the 2 events. Yes Lucic ran Miller, but Lucic didn’t make his existence in the league all about injuring skilled or star players, Gudos on the other hand has. Gudos should be removed from the league, period. That being said, let Toronto endure the fate we all know a failure to respond brings. 1 Quote
Night Train Posted March 14 Report Posted March 14 5 games for Gudos after putting a star player out for the year. Why not just gift him a resort vaca to Cabo also ? Bettman is so gutless. Now the Leafs may exercise a way too late response against the Sabres today. Awesome.. Quote
Flashsabre Posted March 14 Report Posted March 14 (edited) Not only did no one respond no one went over to check on him lying on the ice. Matthews has the perfect excuse to ask out this season and the Leafs have the perfect excuse to blow it all up. Matthews and Nylander dealt, Berube canned. Start from scratch. nfreeman Posted March 14 Report Posted March 14 Canadian teams tend to overreact to this kind of thing, plus the Leafs were already having a terrible season. I can see the Leafs firing everyone after the season. 2 Quote
DarthEbriate Posted March 14 Report Posted March 14 Three ways I look at it: For today, I'm a little bummed about it. Toronto actually showed signs of life as result in the third period and earned a comeback win against a Ducks team that had that game in the bag. The Sabres will get a motivated (mini-bump! maybe 2-3 games) Leafs squad and I was hoping for the continued malaise of Leafs self-pity, tank, and suckitude for tonight. This will be a good test for the Sabres instead of an easy rebound game. For the Leafs, it can go either way: A) Miller. This is the final unraveling of a team that wasn't good enough to make it over the threshold. The 4 other guys on the ice: Nylander (A) - threw his hand up for a penalty and did nothing. Reilly (A) - Did nothing. Carlo - big defenseman - did nothing. Cowan - kid, did something in the third period, but did nothing. Nylander gets moved in the offseason. Reilly, traded. Carlo, traded. The Leafs go into a tank, but Matthews isn't ever really the same. He plays out his contract and gets moved for futures. By the time they're even ready to be good again - Cowan and Knies want out, too. B) TNT. Just ditch Reilly in the offseason. Carlo feels remorse and shame, and next season has his Samuelsson breakout. Matthews returns for the start of the season, Nylander learned to care again, and Cowan becomes a stud. They are able to rebuild on the fly like Boston, though not as well, but with the cap flying upward, Toronto is again able to attract key free agents and after a single season dip, they're around the wild card. And in two seasons they're back in the playoff hunt as Tampa/Boston age out. (C] Or somewhere in between.) Quote

No. Their response is over, and it was no response. Tonight the Leaves get buried by the Sabres. Toronto is ready for a tear down. It would be no surprise if Mathews asks to be moved in the off season. I bet he hates playing there. Edited March 14 by Pimlach 1 Quote

This may be Berube's last game tonight, Hopefully the Sabres mentality is hit everyone. I really don't think they are playing for their coach's job. Quote

They should ride Tavares until his wheels literally fall off and Matthews too until neither can even lace their skates. They should also double down on offense. Defense shmeefense, they certainly don't need it. Keep reasonable goaltending so they stay 25th overall until h-e-double hockey sticks freezes over. Let them be a roughly 85 point hockey team forever. Never good enough to be good, never bad enough to get the Eulers 1st overall every other year for a decade plus. They didn't go all-in on offense enough. It can work, for them. REALLY. We're not just sayin' that. Those hockey helmet wearin', short bus ridin' fans deserve that team. Let them have what they deserve. Don't cheat them of that. 1 2 Quote

thewookie1 Posted March 14 Report Posted March 14 It’s hard to say, the Leafs have never shown a willingness to defend each other to begin with. What the Lucic hit showed was the Sabres whom had been a truly united front were no longer. I can’t recall a case during Toronto’s past 10 years where they ever seemed to come together to fight for their teammates. Quote

The drought was born with the Miller incident and then finally that Tage hit sparked the changes that we are seeing the fruit of today. I don't want to see this one spark anything for them. 1 Quote
