Rewind, you say?

Also, life is funny sometimes. Look what I found, when I thought I would never find it: "Wild and Woolly!"

this is incredible. thank you.

also, it's so funny how lorentz has to interrupt his analysis with a shoutout to the power play promotion winner.

What are the all-time games for the Sabres? Or the most defining ones?

2026 - Tampa

2011 - Bruins (Lucic running Miller)

2007 - Senators (Drury brawl)

2006 - Senators (Pominville goal)

2006 - Senators (OT in playoffs)

1999 - Dallas (No goal)

1993 - Bruins (Mayday)

Last night was the best regular season game I’ve ever seen.

That’s where I am/can get I think. Amazing contest. But it’s up there with a couple others from the regular season specifically.

In trying to REMEMBER famous regular season games and coming up with so few relative to the playoffs, it drove home to me the idea that without the emotion/stakes of a playoff series attached to the game I could never have it at the top of my list. If they had lost yesterday I’d have woken up today a little disappointed but still calling it a good game. There were myriad playoff losses where I woke up feeling like I was struck over the heart with an anvil. Which is the inverse of the joy felt the next day upon, say, beating Ottawa 7-6.

The stakes aren’t exactly reflective of the quality of any game, but we are entering into the territory of the thickets of memory here so I believe impact felt from the stakes carries a lot of weight

This was probably the best game I’ve seen since I watched the Sabres beat the jets in person, over here in 2016

Malenstyn clocked Perry and sent him spinning.  That might have been the only true win for Buffalo, other than the final score.  Carrick did good against a much bigger Sabourin.  Even the big, dumb, and slow Cernak didn’t do much with Kesselring.

Funny thing is I don’t think I heard any of these 3 guys names - Perry, Cernak, or Sabourin after they fought.  It’s like they followed a script, picked a fight, but none of them can play.   They were big slow pylons.   I want to see them on the ice more.

Raddysh is a handful to deal with. He went after Dahlin and Thompson all game.   He is a load

Hagel is tough, but he is not a true old school player.  I cannot respect him.  He jumps into fights late as the 3rd man, and he fights with gloves on.  He did it all game.  Same with Cirelli jumped into every scrum but never really got into a fight.

Tampa was reconstructed to deal with Florida’s toughness and now Tampa might not have enough skill and speed to skate with Buffalo, and Cooper knows it.

The part I agree with is this was "scripted" and was a deliberate game plan. But it's a trap. It's designed to get in their heads and make them think it's always coming, but in the playoffs it won't be the same, and if the Sabres jump and react every time Tampa says BOO! they will get penalties and fall into that trap. Seen this a million times for veteran playoff teams. This is where the coaching and the veterans have to step up and guide them through this.

The positive is Sabres won the game and scored a lot. That will give Tampa some pause and maybe they will rethink their plan of intimidation. We might be in their heads as the team they don't think they can beat now.

the difference come playoff time might be the goaltending. This was not Vasilevsky. We can beat Tampa in every aspect of the game except that one. In order to win they will have to be tougher in front of UPL or Lyon and control more rebounds. Help the goalie more. That, and charge their net even more. The playoff games will be harder than this one .

Again, last night's game was a great learning experience for the Sabres.  The Bolts were gooning it up until they'd given up their 3rd PP goal against.  They kept playing physically but not as thuggishly.

Sabres were slow to recognize the Bolts strategy had changed.  BUT they did eventually figure it out and they took it back to them again once the game had become hockey rather than thuggery once again.

It's good that the Sabres saw, reacted to, and defeated a team that significantly changed tactics within the game.  That's not normally a junior hockey nor AHL thing and juniors & the AHL is the last time a lot of these guys saw playoff hockey.  Not wishing my life away, but am very much looking forward to the playoffs in a bit over a month.  They'll get here when they get here, but really like this team right now and am pretty psyched to see just what they can do in the tourney.

Next time the Bolts are in town, am expecting Cooper will try to have them play physically but defensively sound next time in an attempt to slow the Sabres down.  But without the home ice advantage, he'll have a hard time getting the matchups he wants.  Doubt the Bolts will try to be goons from the get go next game, but do expect a very large Sabre to challenge and then beat the snot out of Hagel early on.

Might depend on the standings or how the game goes as to what it'll be. If the standings don't matter (and I don't think Tampa cares about home ice all that much) it'll either be a very passive game from Tampa to make the Sabres think the physicality is conquered and dead or it'll be an even bigger goon fest as they play to injure and have players remember. They will target stars and we should do the same.

1973. The young, upstart franchise puts a scare in vaunted Montreal in the playoffs, the Sabres' first appearance in the postseason. They lose Game 6 at home in the Aud with the fans chanting Thank You, Sabres! at the end. It's not a crush anymore between the fans and the team, it's a love affair that will last. And the Sabres were about to go on a long run of excellence and Cup contention.

Thank You Sabres was one my favorite of the original early classics.   The Schoeny Bruins Zamboni game was another.  The Fog Playoff Game.  Pounding the Soviets.  Countless battles with the Flyers and Montreal.  And dominating Toronto and forcing their runaway to the Norris division.

Cernak went right to the locker room after the fight and I don’t think he played after that. Only 6:42 of TOI.

A shame.. I guess Cernak did not learn from Dominic James.

Sabres Senators brawl was my very first game. This spurred my hatred for the Senators (see profile pic). Although I don’t hate them as much anymore. Ottawa has been nothing ever since. I’m leaning towards Tampa now

That was your first game? Damn you had a high bar from the outset.

The arena played the 6-7 song (I didn’t know there was a song beforehand) when we were down by that score.  As soon as the song started my son starts yelling that’s the 6-7 song!!  😅

That explains the camera focusing on young kids doing the motions. Almost like when they could focus on them doing FortNite dances. Also... glad I missed all of that by not being there. Also glad my 22 year old did not mention that to me in his recap of being in attendance. He has however told me today he may have strained some neck muscles.. haha!

Edward’s must have been in net for Sabres that game. Six goals against? Sauve wouldn’t of allowed that lol
