thewookie1 Posted March 4 Report Posted March 4 If they retain half, its a solid trade because Parayko at 3.25mil is a nice vet piece for a painfully young defensive group 2 1 Quote

This better fall through or it better be part of a bigger deal, or else this is on the verge of making some of us actaully angry. The team is doing well, why do something like this if that is what you are giving up? I agree. Mrtka looks like a future stud who can slide into the rotation when one of our current defensemen become too expensive to retain. That PLUS a first for an aging player on an expensive contract doesn't look like a wise deal to me. I'd have been fine with the 1st alone, the 1st and a lesser prospect, or the first and additional picks. I certainly hope this isn't the entire deal and/or that the reporting of the deal is not accurate. 2 2 Quote

CTJoe Posted March 4 Report Posted March 4 Is he a 3rd pair dman, or a CAD Olympic team member, 'cuz can't be both as far as I'm concerned. Not going to judge until the full deal details come out, Think of it this way - in the playoffs, would you rather have a 6'6" 228 pound b*tch playing on your team or a 5'9" guy (Metsa/Bryson)? 4 Quote
Trettioåtta Posted March 4 Report Posted March 4 The worst part is it could be even more than Mrtka and a first based on how the tweet is worded Quote

In the playoffs the bench can be shortened even more than in the regular season. Dahlin, Power, Byram, and Samuelsson get as many, even more minutes if its a close game. Anyone else might be stapled to the bench in the 3rd in those games. I do not like this deal at all if it is as rumored. Edited March 4 by mjd1001 1 Quote
DarthEbriate Posted March 4 Report Posted March 4 Re: Mrtka. He's not helping the Sabres next year. Nor really even the year after. Then the growing pains. He could become a stud, it's true! But if you've got Parayko with retention, that's the right-side Mrtka through all of Mrtka's ELC & two-year bridge. The window is open now. That said, for me, that's dependent on retention. 5 4 Quote

I have never said we need better defensemen. I have been on the side of getting a depth guy (6th or 7th on the roster) for a not-huge return. I am not part of the Sabrespace that you speak of, quoting my post to make your point is not the right direction to travel on this one. Edited March 4 by mjd1001 Quote

Maybe if this is what prevents the Sabres from overpaying the Leafs for OEL, and prevents us from giving Tuch a huge, 8 year $85+ millon extension, then that is good I guess. You trade a good looking, top 10 overall pick and a future 1st rounder as part of a deal if you are pretty sure it is something that is going to get you 'over the top' toward a deep run in the playoffs/cup run. I don't think the return does that at all. But on the rumored price payed for him, I am not happy at all. Edited March 4 by mjd1001 2 Quote
