For some odd reason WGR would only broadcast periods 2 and 3.

I seem to recall that now that you mention it. I also remember RJ doing play by play for games as well.

And he probably did that stupid leg kick that never got close to the puck didn't he? 😂😂

Like "Hey, I'm just going to wildly flail my leg out and hope it blindly hits something!" 😂😂

I remember the Bisons fondly. Went to games when I was about twelve with my friend. One game we sat right behind the Hershey bench, and we gave the Bear’s coach, Frank Mathers the business. He just gave us the stink eye, and we loved it. Great players passed through those Bison teams. Got decimated during the first NHL expansion, however.

My first pro hockey games were that season. Young enough I was confused when I learned Trottier couldn’t play for the Sabres the next season

Lol, I remember that too. I was upset.

I am obsessed with finding out if Rick did a Bisons Calder Cup call.

According to Wiki, he did the road games in that final 1969-1970 Calder Cup season. I don’t recall listening to him specifically, but I do recall him mentioning that a few times over his long career.

Phil Soisson was the voice of the (Ice) Bisons on WGR 1969-70. Charlie Barton was the hockey beat writer for the Courier. My personal favorites were Dennis Kassian and Wayne Rivers (Frank Christie-Trainer), (Shortie Lalonde-Zamboni)

The 1969/1970 Buffalo Bisons retired from the AHL as Calder Cup champions. They were the New York Rangers affiliate in the league. Forward Guy Trottier set the league record for goals with 55. Fans chanted "Guy, Guy!" whenever he touched the puck. They were backstopped by #1 Giles Villemure with a 2.41 GAA and 6 shutouts. My intro to hockey was watching the Bisons.

My older brother used to go to a lot of Bison games.  He was at one of the last and got a players stick.

Can't remember from who.

These do not look like the 2016-'17 Buffalo Beauts.

That team was Buffalo's last professional hockey league champions.

Maybe you were only referring to men's hockey.  If so ...

These do not look like the 1994 Buffalo Stampede players.

THAT team was Buffalo's last non-women only professional hockey league champions.

True about the Beauts. Sorry they didn't last. It would be great if they were revived in the WPHL but I don't know if there are enough fan dollars left in Buffalo to support them at the level of other WPHL teams.

Yep, I came to post that same sentiment, @Taro T

I would love to get a Beauts jersey.  I love everything about them.
