The may want to run some practices in the new stadium. Acclimate to the new digs and develop things away from prying eyes. At least, that's what I'd do.

Someone has to have run the numbers on the cost/benefit between running a heavy training camp schedule (to ensure better performance) as opposed to running a lighter one (to angle for better health).

Plus the defensive scheme is getting totally revamped.  Probably want to have more time without reporters / the public around while installing that.

How do you perform better out for the season?

Was "Camp Marv" a thing?

i think camp marv was absolutely a thing. and that's fine with a veteran team that has proven it can win.

my sense is that if marv had been a little harder with those guys at different times of the year, they might have won a super bowl.

there's a balance to be struck, of course.

I hate the whole thing with doctors diagnosing things online like that just to make some dollars. The whole thing seems so incredibly unethical to me.

What are the remaining buildings right up on Abbott?  It's been a long time, but I don't remember anything in that area and that doesn't look like a part of the stadium.

Yup.  And the buiding remaining at the other side of where the stadium used to be is the administrative offices.

I’m sure there have been thousands of studies teams and the league have run. Problem is a lot of injuries are just dumb luck making them harder to quantify.  There are also always going to be coaches who dismiss the studies because they didn’t like the conclusions.

As you mention later, Marv was known for an easy camp and the team was always great early on in the season so it obviously didn’t hurt their preparation. There is also the experience factor, as you mentioned. Like most things, the answers probably lie somewhere between the extremes.

more dark arts and dumb luck than science (although i’m sure there is room for some science).

i like the player a lot.

the common wisdom is/used to be: don't pay guards.

i think that's changing - especially with internal disruptors becoming more common on opposing d-lines.

i will not and cannot purport to understand NFL cap management. so i'll trust that this contract fits in the team's long-term plans/needs.
