Sabres never seem to put Rosen in a spot to be great. 4th line duties and giving him under 10 mins a game is terrible. I say Buffalo should use him as trade bait this coming deadline. Maybe that's premature but I just don't see his value on this team.

He should be. He is one of our 6 best forwards. Great 200 hundred foot game

Tage, Tuch, Doan, Zucker, Mcleod, Quinn, Norris, Benson - I like his game too, and he's obviously young so you have to project beyond the player he is today to see the value but he's not one of our 6 best forwards yet.  7 points in the 17 games since the start of the new year isn't exactly lighting it up

As a former 1st round pick, his value is highest in the Sabres organization. I doubt you’d get anything other than another teams failed prospect or a late round pick.

I think you're right.  Rosen has a ton of potential, but the depth at F is just too much for him to meaningfully crack the lineup.  That said, I would have had Krebs on the fourth line last night and Rosen up the lineup.  But a trade is a good idea for him and the team.

Helenius had a nice visit but it's too soon for him to play in the show.

He had that one terrific game (Nashville?) and looked the part, and he has a bright future, no doubt.  For now, however, he belongs in the AHL for proper development, similar to how Östlund was handled.  Rosen may be ready, but I don't think the Sabres have a spot for him in the top 9 and his skill set is not a good match for the 4th line.  It will be interesting to see how roster spots and playing time are delegated once (and if) Kulich, Danforth, Greenway and Dunne all return.

All have something to offer, although I suspect that Greenway is injured to the point where his ability to contribute this season is pretty limited.  It may be best to shut him down and let him get another sports hernia surgery and several months of rehab and recovery.  Those are always tough injuries to manage, as many in the medical community feel they can be treated with rest and recovery, whereas others believe that surgery is necessary.  In some cases, even the surgery doesn't work the first time.

Well, Ruff agreed with that idea, but not until after the damage of the Kesselring had already been done.  Doan moved up to Thompson's line; Rosen joined a true Kid's Line; and Krebs went back to the 4th line.

Expect that both he and Quinn given the right opportunity could be good 2nd liners, but with the log jam of talent on this team also expect the 2 of them to find themselves the odd-men out because even if Norris is out injured and Tuch isn't re-signed they've got Thompson, Benson, Doan, Zucker, and at minimum 1 of Kulich or Östlund in the top 6 with Helenius, McLeod, and Krebs available to step up in a pinch and also expect that Kekalainen will bring in via trade or FA another piece for the top 6.  Something has to give.  Thing is, both should be able to be key pieces of a trade to bring in an actual GOOD true top 6 F that would improve the roster in both the short and at least intermediate term, if not actually the LT.

And with those 3 getting sent back down, the Sabres now project (per PuckPedia) to have the ability to take on a smidge more than $9MM in salary at the deadline.

Sabres are set up nicely to be buyers.

Robert Thomas would be great add.    The Blues will likely listen to all offers but they will want something big back.

FYI that Metsa is ineligible to return to the ice for the Amerks until after the Olympic break due to how many games he’s played in Buffalo. So he’s on a paid vacation in ROC for now.

Thanks for that info.  🍺

Pretty sure he was sent down to maximize what the Sabres can bring in at the trade deadline.  Every day he isn't getting paid an NHL salary adds to how much extra salary Kekalainen can bring in.  A couple of weeks ago, right after they had to bring Zac Jones up to have a healthy spare D-man, they were down to having about $5MM (pretty sure a smidge less than that actually) projected cap space at the trade deadline.  Now they're up to having over $9MM in projected cap space because they've been able to send Jones, Metsa, Rosen, and Helenius back to the Amerks.

Like that Jarmo is looking to give himself as much flexibility as is reasonably possible.

It feels weird that this year we might actually make some significant moves at the deadline. I'll be disappointed if we don't. I don't want Jarmo at the presser saying "turns out people really don't want to play here."

Would be shocked if he doesn't bring in a 3rd pairing D-man or 2.

Expect a top 6F brought in as well, but with all the talent that'll likely be coming back from IR, am not nearly as certain of it.  If the prices on those players are too high, could see him considering the guys coming back plus Tuch as a rental as the cavalry riding in.  Especially when considering that there could be a bit of a learning curve to figuring out how to play in Ruff's system, doubt that Kekalainen drops a lot of capital on a guy that MIGHT improve the top 6.  If that's the case, could see targeting a bottom 6C that wins faceoffs and is good on the PK as being the 2ndary target up front.
