CallawaySabres Posted February 3 Report Posted February 3 This is good news, we need everyone healthy for the race to the Cup after the break. 3 Quote

This is not good news, this majorly sucks for UPL. He's not my favorite goalie on the team but I'm definitely feeling for him today. 3 1 Quote

No offense, but at this point if he is more focused on trying to compete for Finland versus making the playoffs here after all this team has been through over the years and how long they have struggled, not only is he extremely unprofessional, but I would question where his priorities lie. Is Tage “more focused” on trying to compete for the USA? Dahlin for Sweden? Are they “extremely unprofessional” as well? Accepting a once in a lifetime chance to represent your country in the Olympics in no way even remotely suggests a player’s priority doesn’t lie with his NHL team. Oopie had his opportunity lost due to an unfortunate injury and that plain sucks for him. 1 3 3 Quote

I’d hold off on this until we hear more about the injury (have there been any updates?). An injury is not good news for needing everyone healthy. 1 Quote

This is a strange take. This injury has nothing to do with his focus. Maybe it'd be unprofessional/selfish if he tried to play through an injury so he could represent his country and then ends up aggravating the injury and making it worse? But that's not the case, this injury spoiled a once in a lifetime opportunity for him. I wish we had more guys going to the Olympics, I want our best players getting a taste of high pressure games versus the elite competition. This will be a playoff preparation for our guys who have never been. 1 Quote
#freejame Posted February 3 Report Posted February 3 I wouldn’t fault any player for caring more about winning gold for their national team more than caring about winning a Stanley Cup. People sacrifice a whole lot more for their country than a playoff run to represent them throughout the world. I don’t ever want to get to the point where I’m cynical about someone putting their health and livelihood on the line to bring glory to their country. With all the BS out there these days, especially in the US, we need to cherish these opportunities and recognize them for what they are. Tage Thompson is going out there to show the world what it means to be an American hockey player. Rasmus Dahlin is showing the world what a small country like Sweden is capable of against larger countries with more resources. Hell, ask a Canadian what it would mean for them to beat team USA this year. I struggle a lot with where America is these days, especially as a veteran with a deep love of his country. I’m anxiously awaiting this opportunity to see something positive and unifying like I know Team USA hockey can be. I’d bet any money that anyone on the roster feels that way too. 1 1 Quote

An injury is not good news for needing everyone healthy. It stinks that he's hurt, for all parties. It'll be worse if he isn't of perfect health at the end of the Olympic break. The Sabres goalies have all been above league average -- they need that to continue in the stretch run. Quote

That said, I have to respectfully disagree because no way, no how does an Olympic Gold beat a Stanley Cup victory IMO. For my own Sabres selfish reasons, I WANT A BUFFALO STANLEY! Everything else is secondary. 1 Quote
SabreFinn Posted February 3 Report Posted February 3 It is possible this injury took away a once in a life time chance to wear a team Finland jersey in a best on best olympic tournament. It is a huge disappointment for him. Hope he at least can get some playoff games. It is also a huge loss for Finland, he could have been a savior since Saros is playing really bad. 1 1 Quote
