I hate the Canes. I hated them after 2006 and I grew to hating them even more watching them kick our ass in Raleigh every year I live in North Carolina. I hope the boys are hungry today, because with a 1:15 start I’m expecting more than a few babies in the stands. Let’s ruin a whole bunch of little kids day off of school. ***** the Canes. Go Sabres.

Tough test for our young team.

This is a game they should be motivated to play, one of the top teams in the east. Get back to puck management and team defense. If I recall they did a good job vs Aho during the last game and this guy has feasted on the Sabres.

Let’s go Buffalo!

UPL had a net to himself yesterday, while Ellis and Lyon split duty at the other end.  That would indicate that the crease is UPL's this afternoon.  He broke his streak of not giving up more than 3 goals at home on Saturday.  Today would be a good day for him to get only his 3rd start on the road with fewer than 3 goals given up.  Not convinced he'll be able to do that, but hoping for it.

This is normally a tough game for them, but pretty sure they won their last trip into Carolina.

Go 'bres!  Help us forget the stink of this past weekend Buffalo sports wise.

Where is it listed as a 1:15 start time?  I’ve never quite understood the hate for the Canes from that 2006 playoff run. They beat the Sabres. Add them to a long list.  I’ve heard the younger WGR personalities describe the 2006 Canes as “stealing the cup” from Buffalo. I can’t tell you how many ways I hate that sentiment.  Like some entitled Boston fan or something.  It’s clear Buffalo is never supposed to win anything. I’ll take whatever dose of success I can get whether it’s a Thursday night scrum with the Habs or the next game they win.

It really is terrible our supposed number one goalie inspires so little faith. He better pull a rabbit of a hat today and his head out of his ass.

If there was only something the team could do to reduce scoring chances. But what?

I made up the 1:15 start in my head. It should be fixed in the title I edited it a while ago. The people of Raleigh started it with their hatred of true hockey fans coming down to sell out their arena and show them how to tailgate. Then they consistently gloated that cup over the Sabres in the years that followed, to include lifting their banner against us.

Then when I lived in the Carolinas I went to probably 8 Canes-Sabres games and saw them lose every time. They’ll tell you they don’t like the Sabres or their fans either. I’ve got no issue with them beating us, but that series created a rivalry at least between the fan bases that is still alive and well.

Here we go a five game road trip, 4 against the East conference standing teams with 2 in their division race.

They need to keep playing winning hockey through the Olympic break and please no more losing streaks.

Let's go Buffalo, keep it a winning show.

They need to go 4-1 or 3-1-1 at worst.

Just find a way to win.

Between now and the Olympics, we have ten games - and we probably want 14 points from them. In terms of where those points need to come from:

  • Carolina - low importance (Carolina aren't a threat, they will win the MET division, so only matters as we lose points)
  • Nashville - low importance (different conference, literally no impact on loss - aside from us losing points, obviously)
  • Montreal - high importance (same divsion, a few points above us)
  • New York Islanders - (in the murky mix of bubble playoffs but also securely in because of weak ATL div, so may not matter to us)
  • Toronto - high importance (same division, only a few points below us - but out of the playoffs)
  • LA - low importance (different conference)
  • Montreal - high importance (same divsion, a few points above us)
  • Panthers - high importance (out of the playoffs, but will get their top players back and likely go on a late season run)
  • Lightning - medium importance (likely winning ATL division, so not really our competition, but is the same div so still matters)
  • Pitsburgh - medium importance (in the murky mix of bubble playoffs but also securely in because of weak ATL div, so may not matter to us)

So four critical games, and another three against teams where it would be very nice to strip points from. If we are to go 7-2-1 or so, then this would be a decent game for the OT loss.

If we can maintain a playoff position through this gaunlet, we're in a nice position. Ideally we want the Islanders and Penguins (or two other teams in ATL), to start going on a tear and chewing up the bubble teams to get better separation.
