PASabreFan Posted January 13 Report Posted January 13 Of the fans: "We've been starving for a winner..." "...your owner also." It was good to hear. People have wondered where the Starting Today TPegs went. Whether he is insulated from public opinion or chooses to not address criticism, it was a mistake to wait so long to make such a statement. I'm actually a little excited by the seeming reemergence of Day One Terry (having a good GM, talking to the fans, loosening the pursestrings). BTW for those who say Terry doesn't speak publicly bc he is so bad at it, nah, he does fine. 6 1 Quote
msw2112 Posted January 13 Report Posted January 13 (edited) Pegula is an OK public speaker. Not the best, but adequate. Some people complain that he meddles too much. Others complain that he's invisible. Perhaps some people do both. He owns the team and it's his prerogative on how he wants to run his business. I don't believe he has an obligation to speak to the fans and/or media. That said, we fans can influence his choices with our feet, eyeballs, and wallets. If we don't like how he's handling things, we can stop buying tickets, buying merchandise, and watching on TV. I'd say that the fans have done that. The empty arenas of the recent past seem to be a lot more full these days, with the team performing well and a new, seemingly competent, front office being assembled. I'm not in town, so I can only speak to what I observe on TV, but the place looks to be a lot more full of late. Edited January 13 by msw2112 Quote
PASabreFan Posted January 13 Author Report Posted January 13 (edited) Attendance is up about 1,000 fannies on avg over last season. Tickets sold, of course. Edited January 13 by PASabreFan 1 Quote
PASabreFan Posted January 13 Author Report Posted January 13 FWIW the Sabres said last night's attendance was over 16k. Our own fanny counter TaroT estimated the crowd to be about 13k. Quote

I caught a snippet with Terry during the game last night, he talked about the NHL draft being in Buffalo and he mentioned, once again, that he coached his son in MITE hockey. Mite youth hockey is ages 8 and under. He maybe meant Midget (16 and under). I am still not convinced that he doesn’t see himself as a knowledgeable hockey man. SMH Quote
GASabresIUFAN Posted January 13 Report Posted January 13 Action, action, action. I’m so sick of words. He did take the right first step and dumped KA (who should never have been hired) and the team is playing better. These are positive actions. However, we have no idea if Jarmo will be a good GM. He hasn’t made a substantive move or conducted a draft. Quote
inkman Posted January 13 Report Posted January 13 If I never hear Terry Pegula speak again, my life will be no different. This constant need to hear this old man speak is bizarre. Glad you got your Terry boners satiated. Good Lord. 5 Quote

It’s about how he has run this franchise to the ground since he bought it. Check his record as an owner. It’s appalling. The hiring of KA to be the GM went beyond being nonsensical and odd. After nearly a generation of overseeing a mocked franchise, just maybe 🤔 with the hiring of Jarmo he has figured things out in how to be a responsible owner. Who gives a dam as to whether he is articulate or tongue tied. I don’t freaking care. How about acting as if you do! His record as an owner is his record. It’s nothing to be proud of. 1 Quote

A lot to unpack here. I'm well aware of his track record as I would hope all us losers who post 24/7 on this site should be. I was also leading the charge in regards to Terry's penchant for blowing every public speaking appearance he ever had. I just don't care about anything he says. Or really anyone in sports. Owners, coaches, players, management. I don't care what they have to say. It's almost always coach speak. Just serving up the normal platitudes to please the masses. Who cares. It's actions I care about. Give me roster moves, coaching changes, etc. Quote

It was 💩 poor. Hopefully, with the hiring of Jarmo things will have changed. Quote

Would say there were actually about 15k in the building when all was said and done. But it was the lowest attendance for a game in quite some time (at least more than a week before Christmas the last time there were only about 15k in the building). Quote

Hard to bitch about him not making big trades or coaching changes since they have went 10/12 since he was “officially” hired. Quote

The Sabres literally already host the combine every year. How does a draft where no executives set foot in Buffalo top that? 55 minutes ago, _Q_ said: I disagree with this, Jarmo has made two substantive moves in bringing in 2 credible experienced hockey guys into the org. Kekäläinen shouldn't be worried about the 10/12, he should be worried about if his team can be better. Quote
