Jan 15: FACT & TRIVIA

Dale Hawerchuk tied a team record by recording five assists in an 8-8 tie with the Devils on January 15, 1992.

Who are all the Sabres to have five assists in one game? There are four players including Dale.

Hmm...

LaFontaine

Turgeon

Briere

Campbell

Lafontaine has to be one. I remember when Tage had his pair of 6 point games that one season, it was pointed out that LaFontaine was the last with 6 points in a game.

Dale was given.

Two left.

The other two Sabres with a five assist game are Perreault & Eichel.

Jan 16:  TRIVIA

What Sabres goaltender won the Vezina Trophy for the 2009-10 season?

Besides Miller Vezina is 2009/10, who was the last Sabres player, goaltender or coach to win a major NHL award?

Tyler Meyers Calder trophy would be my guess.

I can think of 3 - Hasek, Miller and Rico, but the 4th eludes me.  Barrasso won a Vezina with the Sabres, so is he the 4th?

You got it.

Google says Martin did it twice and Hasek 6 times.

Rico was also 2nd team twice and Barrasso once.

How about 2nd team?

Then you are getting into Patty, Mogilny, Gilbert and a few others.  Robert?  Soupy?

Yes, yes and yes (twice). Yes and no.

Four more, according to Google. One of them did it twice.

Ryan Miller? Briere? Or should we be thinking further back?

Miller was never 2nd team, just the one first.

One of his teammates did make it, but it wasn’t Danny.

The other three were older.

Gare when he scored 50?  Edwards when he won the Vezina? Vanek when he scored 40+ with 80 points?

Ok I’ll say Vanek. For older, Danny Gare? I would only be shooting darts from here.

Darren Puppa is the Sabres Hall of Fame? (I had to look it up - he finished 2nd in Vezina voting in 89/90)

Hmm Puppa was not on the list I was going from, but I'm seeing hockey reference agrees with you and I think I have a vague memory of that happening as well.

The guy I was looking for Jim Schoenfeld in 1979-80

Jam 17-18: FACT

In his nine seasons with the Sabres, Donald Audette reached the 20-goal plateau five times.

One of my earlier Amerks memories was his rookie AHL season when he scored 40. Not too shabby for a 5’8” ninth round draft pick.
