You can find stuff to like and not like. The 5-8 year development timeline and focusing on some far off dream of being a perennial contender smack of KA's job security fetish. Not owning the drought, not good.

The character stuff is OK, but kinda cliché. The apparent bright line with the owner was terrific. All in all, hard to not like the cut of his jib.

We shall see.

I wouldn't read to much into that.  From his point of view he has to work with the clay that's already here.  He also can't go all in just to make the playoffs one year.  Atlanta did that and got bounced easily in the first round and now they are in WPG.  

What he means is that he has to build a core group, that competes game in and game out and therefore can compete for the playoffs and more each season going forward.  To do that he is going to have to evaluate what he has and what he can reasonably acquire now.  

I think you'll see a few quick changes that he mentioned in the presser, followed by a re-evaluation at the deadline and then more substantive changes in the off-season depending on how the team finishes.

I think Terry was so involved because Adams was a spineless yes man that knew he had no business having his job so he just listened to Terry.

Watching that PC there is no way Terry is walking over Jarmo. He will have conversations with Jarmo but Jarmo seems like a guy who will be calling the shots.

I mean, do you want them to go all in and blow every asset the team has to maybe get to the Stanley Cup once. Then need to go through a rebuild because you have no assets in the minors?

It's nice to see Jarmo say publicly what we've all been saying for a while: that these guys are talented, but kinda dumb. 

Being mentally prepared every game is critical to success, and too many nights there are too many guys who just seem unfocused. 

Hopefully that changes. It has to come from the individual.

That the goalies have given them a shot to win games. That Ellis is hurt right now but they will look at it.

Even if he hates the goaltending he’s not throwing anyone under the bus in an opening presser.

Jarmo seems like a decisive guy. I’m sure he has ideas. But he’s not giving anything away in an opening PC

Jarmo also said he isn't going to air something in the press without talking to the player or team first. On top of all that UPL is at least a fellow countryman so I would think Jarmo wouldn't come out and be like "UPL has been bad" or something. He turned down a couple opportunities to talk about players specifically. I would guess a guy with 25yrs of NHL front office experience knows that his goaltending isn't great. He's got some idea about what he wants to do and I don't think it is a coincidence that he was up there in the only chair, by himself. No Lindy, no Finance guy (whatever his name is), just Jarmo. I will take him at his word for now that he is running this ship until proven otherwise. Maybe he did have the talk with Pegula and told him directly "I will tell you what is going on and answer your questions but the decisions on hockey ops starts and ends with me." I doubt it will be that cut and dry and that is not a real quote. He mentioned Pegula a few teams and I thought that answer got a little muddled but he also seemed to come back to the point of making the decisions himself. Wasn't Adams word salad about getting input and talking to everyone and building consentience.

Pretty clear he's already identified a few things he doesn't like in the off-ice team and I expect some changes there very shortly.

His response about Lindy was duly respectful, but hardly was "Lindy ain't going nowhere, so I think that door is still open.

But there are other front-office pieces he seems to have already made up his mind about. Curious to see how closely they match the usual suspects (Wilford, Forton, Appert?) and if any will be surprises (Ventura, Karmanos?)

I think the same is true for the players, but that transition will be a longer process. 

First impression is that he projects very much as a leader — some substance and steel in there.

I doubt he will ever be called a 'weasel" and I suspect accountability will be more than a buzzword moving forward.

I like Dahlin and Thompson, but they certainly aren't exceptions to this.

And they are the leaders.

Agreed. Adams could never construct a response along the lines of "Terry owns the team and can ask me all the questions he wants. I'll answer them, but I have full autonomy". That concept was missing from every one of Adams' pressers.

I think you are right. I am disappointed in Quinn because the sky was the limit for him. He has the hands and the shot and the brain to be very very good but the attitude that defines Doan and Benson is almost non-existent with Jack Quinn. 

He and JJP are peas in a pod I think.
