Why bring Östlund back up into this ***** show? He’s not saving the day so unless you want him to learn how to be a loser, then keep him in Rochester. Bring up some other scrub that has no chance to ever make the NHL.

It doesn’t matter who we bring up. Until the mngt and coaching staff are cleaned out this culture will not begin to change. Most of these players won’t be Sabres anymore by the time those changes occur, if they occur.

The best a player drafted by the Sabres can hope for right now is to ride out the rights time or flat out demand to be moved. These players careers are stuck in purgatory while they wear a Sabres uniform as of now.

I kind of like this one-game non-paper AHL transaction rule. But I also know there will be a rash of injuries in Buffalo right before the AHL playoff roster deadline and suddenly Rosen and/or Östlund will have to magically be in two places at once --- and the Amerks will go into the playoffs without on their best offensive threats.

If we had decent goaltending, we'd have 3-4 more wins right now... Maybe more if you look at all the OTL's. It's still on Adams though and his ineptitude to address this in 6 years.

The loss of Zucker amplifies a big issue this team has. That is the lack of scoring from the left wing. The lineup last night

Greenway  1 goal

Benson       0 goals

Malenstyn  3 goals

Zucker        9 goals   5 of which were on the power play.

The loss of Peterka has really hurt us in this area of the game. We can't put together a line that scores with consistency without that threat from the left wing. Peterka filled in for Skinner who despite his flaws put a lot of goals in the net with Thompson and Tuch. Of the Amerks, Östlund is the most Natural left winger. I am not sure if he is ever going to be a 30 goal guy. Rosen is a lefty but like Peterka is listed a a right winger. Neither should be on the top line but I guess we have nothing else go with.

I know goaltending is bad but we can't ignore how bad the offense is and the problem is left of center.

They Sabres are tied for 13th in the league in scoring. Östlund is a center and no, he won't be a 30g guy. I don't agree with your conclusion that this team has a bad offense. The problem is the same as last year, the goaltending and defensive coverage is bad. Sabres are 30th in goals against, so again it isn't that they can't score, it is that they are not getting the 20% reduction in goals against they needed to be competitive.

As expected, Peterka's production is not easily replaced.

Peterka in 31 games:   12g 13a 25 pts and +5

It appears that the Utah coach knows how to utilize Peterka to get offensive production and minimize the negative defensive outcomes.

The Sabres have lost 12 games this year where they have scored 2 goals or less. This team is not designed to win games where they score only 2 goals. The lack of consistent offence is a problem. They could reduce goals against but it won't help without the offence. It's not a team average issue it's a mean issue. How many games they score 3 or more vs how many games they score less than three. The games where they go off and score 8 and 9 goals help the average but only count 2 points each.

The biggest impact will be on the power play as whatever initial 5-on-5 bonus he and McLeod gave to Quinn seems to have worn its course.

This team is currently 21st in PP% (18.1). Like last season, take Zucker out of the PP and it's basically just TNT looking for a one-timer again

Its a quandry, bring the young players into this cesspool of lazy inept ankle grabbing and teach them how to lose and be happy about it... or insulate them from this garbage in the AHL so hopefully Adams does not destroy their careers..  I guess if I am to choose, you gotta bring em up... because I am not convinced that anything meaningful changes in this FO...  so we might as well begin to destroy their careers from the get go then trade them so they can go elsewhere and hopefully be young enough to rehabilitate their careers...  I guess this is about.. why do I continue to hope for a Sabres overhaul etc... and more we are going to suck as long as Pegula is here and I have some compassion for the player.

True, but I have a feeling that decent goalies would be less decent playing behind this team.

They are careless with the puck in their zone and the don't fight hard enough to win loose puck battles.  Breakouts are much too casual.  Turnovers are becoming more frequent.

Henrik Lunqvist explained it as politely as it can be said.  Playing team defense is hard and they don't seem to want to do it.

If Östlund is called back up, he will have flown from Winnipeg to Toronto, taken a car service to Rochester. Then taken a bus ride from Rochester to Belleville for tomorrow’s game. Then fly from Ottawa to Vancouver to meet the team on Thursday.

Sadly, at that point, the Sabres can bring up some of Ra-cha-cha's ECHL callups because it just won't matter in Buffalo at that point.  But it might matter in Ra-cha-cha.

Also, don't know if a player on an emergency callup isn't considered to still be on the AHL roster for purposes of the AHL playoff roster deadline.  It's possible (unlikely, but possible) that they'd still be included on the AHL roster because though they'd be in the NHL they aren't quite fully in the NHL (even if they're playing).

Seriously, does anyone even care at this point? Injuries don't matter anymore. Every single solitary aspect of this organization is beyond terrible. Face it, there is no fixing this team. I would LOVE to know out of the now 15 years they have missed the playoffs, how many times were they 8 points or more out of 8th before January even started.

Defense - Awful

Top 6 - Awful

Coaching - Awful

Goaltending - Worst in the league

GM - Beyond awful

Owner - Absentee landlord

The Sabres have lost 13 games by giving up 4 or more goals. They only have 2 games where they scored 6 or more so that's not really inflating their totals much. You are arguing that without a player like Peterka we simply are not scoring enough. We are scoring enough, but we cannot and have not for years been able to stop other teams. We needed a 20% reduction in goals against to make the playoffs, right now we are on pace for 291 goals against, 2 more than the 29th worst Buffalo Sabres were last year. TBF I ran the numbers the other way as well, we are running at a 249goal pace which is 20g less than last year. So Buffalo is actually worse at allowing goals (because the goaltending is ATROCIOUS) and they aren't scoring as much as last year.

Half of the Eastern Conf playoff teams last year were close to 249goals (252, 242, 245, 243) but 0 of them were anywhere near 289ga. The closest was Montreal at 265ga and no other playoff team in the East was over 234ga.

For those of you clamoring for Don Granato or another Sabres coach... lets examine what the league thinks of them

Granato - not employed in the NHL, nor as a coach anywhere he does part time analysis on Sirius XM

Housley - Not in the NHL or in coaching

Kreuger - nothing listed for current employment

Bottom line, not one recent coach even has a job in the NHL anymore...  Granato and Kruger didnt even get a look, Housley was fired twice as an assistant in a few years and is out of the league...

Ruff is clearly not all that and I believe when he is fired the inevitable will be he is out of the NHL as well...  this is not a referendum on these men... but it is an observation that NHL execs certainly are not clamoring to give these guys a job... like any job... Ruff in his day was very good... but he is out of touch I believe and just looks plain old tired... like I cant fix this... please fire me soon... Bottom line Adams coaching hires (or Pegula's I am not sure) are uninspired, lack competence and are clearly not in demand for literally any job in this league...

Is Muckler still alive? I know Scottie lives in Williamsville still on the transit Valley golf course... maybe he can coach via zoom call like we do our scouting...

DeBoer is out there.   Maybe they make a coaching change soon but I doubt it since the plan was Lindy for 2 years and then Appert.
