Cmon man, just enjoy the win.  5-1 at that

I mean McDavid was invisible against us when we played the Oilers, but apparently OP thinks every great player has great games every night.

Some people are so miserable, they have to find things to complain about.

Reading through pages of posts this morning has me wondering if Owen Power played last night? There’s usually a handful of criticisms and complaints about him.

That’s usually a good sign for a defenseman.

The Sabres don't have a problem at goalie.  All three are competent, but not great.  The problem is that goaltending is occupying too many roster spots.  The solution is not necessarily outscoring the problem; it's just playing better defense.  The Sabres didn't allow only one goal because UPL stood on his head; it was because they played a more responsible defensive game in front of him.

I am not worried about roster spots. Rotation could be an issue because they never seem to manage it right. Yes the defense is  playing well. For the most part they have all season. We just have not been converting chances in a number of games. Last night we did. I was doing a dive into the 22-23 Sabres season and how important scoring was given the crap defense they had on the ice that year. I will do it in another thread.

I remember 2 good and 1 bad play from him. The first good was he won a battle and cut into the middle of the ice and made a nice outlet pass. The second was on the point for the PP, I thought he had good movement and deception. The one bad play he went in stick first and lost the battle in his own zone, felt like a really weak attempt at puck retrieval.

That was one of the best defensive games the Sabres played all year. Every time the Jets had a rush, one or more Sabre got back and diffused the situation. And when the Jets got a shot off UPL saw it clean and only had to make one save. Only one breakaway and UPL stopped it.

Someone is getting traded from the goalie room. Unlikely it will be Ellis because of waiver rules. (Sabres have to offer Ellis to any team that made a waiver claim for him plus the Blues.) So one of UPL or Lyon is being shopped. We know scouts and GMs have been at Sabres games.

Tough 6 game road trip. Have to be .500 after it. They don’t typically do well when out west. Hopefully they can beat their cousins. Maybe finally beat Seattle?

Is Kesserling expected to be out for the season?

As you and others have pointed out, this team is starting to have depth and internal competition. So when injuries inevitably happen, the replacements can adequately fill in.

I don't think he is out for the season, I think that would have been announced if it were true.

Please tell us you weren't standing next to him at the urinal.

No, he (John Muckler) was at the bar.  Drake Hotel in Chicago.  We talked about the 4 OT win against the Devils in the 1994 playoffs, when Muckler was behind the bench.  I'm sure some of the more senior members of Sabrespace remember that one.

Kesselring is listed as day to day.  And he's been skating for about a week now.

Danforth is listed as week to week.

Kulich is listed as month to month.

In that case, I think Östlund is here to stay. Him staying in the lineup after Norris’ return tells me everything I need to know about him.

I wonder if they leave Kesselring home for the roadtrip and wait until they get back to plug him in.

Metsa sent back down yesterday… maybe that tells us everything we need to know about Kesselring. I know Metsa is the easiest one to send down if Östlund plays, but maybe it’s more than that.

Did they say anything about Kesselring not making the trip?

Would expect him to be on the trip, but not activated unless there is an injury/illness.  Would have to relook at the rules, but believe he could be activated on an emergency basis should a D go out due to illness or injury in warmups, as they'd be below 6 healthy D on the roster.  (Haven't looked at the details on that in a long time, so that might not be allowable, but pretty sure it would be.)

But that would only help with the roster crunch for a day or 2.

sounds like it was probably a deep bone bruise from taking a puck to the ankle.

Now he just needs to fall in love with a girl named Allie and they can get married and live happily ever after like in The Notebook!

AND, it saves Terry a bunch of money in hotels and in meals (per diem).

Why?

Lindy typically goes with the hot hand and I thought Ellis played very well the other night (outside of the shootout).  Ellis, in my opinion, gives them the best chance to win at this point in time.

To answer my own question, I just read an article on WGR where Ruff said that they played UPL because the team got back from Minnesota at 4:30 AM and that UPL was the "freshest" of the 3 goalies given the travel-weariness of the team; PLUS, Ellis has the ongoing back stiffness issue and they want to do some "maintenance" on it.

Ellis is getting the start tomorrow most likely. He had the starters net today at practice.
