Good to be safe. He definitely was dazed and not with it when he first got back to his knees. Under no circumstances should he play tomorrow. Hopefully, he's good to go for the road trip.

Need a lefty with size? Let's see Novikov for a game (or two).

They review everything else, why not a clear major elbow.

Player safety my rump

I don’t see the game, but they only review if it has already been called a major.

Right, those are the current rules.

But since they allow for reviews of other non consequential crap, why stop there?

If a player is injured cleary by a missed call that could be a major (or even jsut head contact) why not look at it.... College has targeting rules.

Just seems weird that a league that is pretending to care about player safety allows a foe a review of 1mm of ice but this is a big Oh well, we didn't see it, carry on

Yes but referees with even a bit of a brain call it a major so they can review it and than reduce it to a minor if warranted

Interesting that the guy who didn’t react to Tage’s head shot last year is the victim of an elbow to the face this year with a luke warm response.

Was is it even lukewarm?

And how about the franchise scorer having to endanger himself to settle a score?

I call BS on all these shenanigans.

As I said in the GDT, Muel will fight him next year.

BTW, a bit of irony.  It was Sigenthaler who backed Muel down against retaliation on Noesom last year.   Now he elbows him in the face and concusses him.

Ref should have called it a 5 first, and then reviewed it.

Remember back in the day with teams like the Flyers and Islanders,  these player feuds went on for years.

Every replay I’ve seen has the actual contact edited out. Is that some grand design by the NHL?

Does anyone have a link to the actual hit?

this is my fake surprised face.

I actually feel bad for him this time only because he was probably the best Dman so far this season. Also I don’t necessarily believe it was intentional and I’m guessing the refs felt it was just a bad outcome of a hockey play.  As soon as I saw him go down, I knew he would be out for a bit.

Probably a bad idea since Muel will probably be out a month with a concussion if he fights him

I know the rule, and situations like this SHOULD be reviewed.

Hell, they check for a toe pick over the line on offside challenge. Why not review  when an obvious injury happened (oh, wait there I go using logic).

Instead, no penalty called. Obviously,Sammy just spontaneously blew a leak in his nose & concussed himself.

Agree Coach (we tend to be on same page). That said,  Muel should but won’t fight (next game is 12/21 @NJ). Dunne or bring up Gerrt for the game.

Sabres seen as a soft team & no respect. Someone needed to kick his butt on the spot or next shift.

Nothing.

How feckless did Ras look talking to the ref after the hit and no call?

The fecklometer says there was a normal amount of feck.

I am sure he called someone’s mom a female dog.  That should be inspiring, no?

This is not how teams behave.

If I’m following this correctly, no penalty was called at all, right? You can’t expect refs to randomly call a major penalty in a spot where they didn’t think anything happened at all. Fix the system, fine, but I don’t want refs just creating penalties out of thin air under any circumstances. That’s a recipe for disaster… it would probably satisfy the gambling overlords though.

I actually didn’t see the game. I thought someone said they called a minor. I agree, if they didn’t think it warranted a penalty, so be it.

All that blood and nothing happened?

I  see refs call something and then review it for major/minor all the time. It’s happened at least twice in Sabres games this season.

But, that's the issue.  Neither ref called anything on the play.
