LGR4GM Posted November 6 Report Posted November 6 The Blues are bad. They have the worst goaltending in the league right now. The Sabres are meh. They have half the top 9 missing. Can the Sabres take advantage of a team with bad goaltending? Will St. Louis kidnap Ellis on the way out of town? Will Buffalo get goalied? Will this game also go to OT so Buffalo can lose? Does Seth Appert know his pp and 3v3 strategy sucks worse than soggy wings? Find out tonight on another adventure of, as the Sabres turn. 5 1 2 Quote
LGR4GM Posted November 6 Author Report Posted November 6 Here are the projected lines, Ukko Pekka Luukkonen will be the starter. Quote
SabresBaltimore Posted November 6 Report Posted November 6 Kozak can't play tonight without a corresponding roster move right? Please be the day we FINALLY waive Geersten. Blues lost 6-1 last night and gave Ovi his 900th goal down here in DC. If we can't win this game, even with a depleted roster I dunno. Also tonight is a Goathead night. Go Sabres! 1 2 Quote
PromoTheRobot Posted November 6 Report Posted November 6 I know UPL said he's starting. I would have bet money Ellis would get the start tonight. 1 Quote

They really need to give Ellis another start, this seemed like the perfect spot. But I think UPL played well enough on Sat to earn the start tonight. 3 Quote

Making a determination on UPL’s status with the team is a more important consideration than determining what Ellis’s role is, of course if it is believed that both goalies give you the same chance to succeed in tonight’s game. If Ellis ends on waivers and picked up, then so be it. It shouldn’t be forgotten that Levi is still in the system and can be moved up when the need arises. 1 1 Quote

Guys can practice while on IR. Just because they lined up that way in practice doesn't mean he's on the roster. He was put on IR. They had to put Zucker on IR before Tuesdays game just to call up Östlund. So they either need to send someone back down or (I hope) waive Geersten. Quote

SabresBaltimore Posted November 6 Report Posted November 6 we have 13 forwards not counting Kozak, 7 defenders and 3 goalies. That's 23. They need to make a spot if Kozak plays. Quote

St. Louis got destroyed last night so they should come out with some fire Play like we did against Utah and we will win this game….hopefully in regulation Quote

They said months... so that would be December before I was looking for him.... that said... I am not sure what the injury is... but months to me means there is a potential they are conservatively treating him hoping he heals and avoids surgery... so to me there is always the possibility that this time line is pushed back... basically... they said December we will see if that pans out.... They know what UPL is. When UPL is in his good groove he is a 1B, otherwise he is a 2. Unfortunately he has never shown enough consistency to be a true #1, not even in the AHL. Everyone knows that. Could that ever change? Should they keep rolling the dice on UPL? They should be giving Ellis an equal number of games as UPL right now - both backing up Lyon. If Ellis gets waived and becomes a solid NHL goalie somewhere else it will be another massive fail. They should give Ellis some games if he is healthy. I cannot understand why they wouldn't unless they are showcasing UPL for a possible trade. 3 1 1 Quote

The determination is he sucks and only plays well when he has to ty and earn something. Outside of that, he looks unfocused, undisciplined and unmotivated day to day. The worst thing for UPL is to have a situation where he is the clear #1 option, you will get the worst version of him instead of the best, which is the absolute worst case scenario for a guy who you expect to be a franchise Goalie. 4 hours ago, LGR4GM said: Small sample size so far and if it continues over the course of the year that typically will catch up to you by February. 1 Quote
msw2112 Posted November 6 Report Posted November 6 (edited) Had Ellis not had back issues, he would have started the 2nd Toronto game, but UPL played instead and wasn't great. I don't know what Ellis' health was for the Washington game, but UPL got the start and, after bad first few minutes (2 early goals), played very well the rest of the game, and was great in the OT and shootout. I think that's why he's getting the start tonight. Ellis is the victim of some bad luck with the back injury, and UPL playing well in his last start (and Lyon being terrific in HIS last start). Given how well he played in first (and only) game, I would also like to see Ellis get some more opportunities, but if Lyon and UPL keep playing well and there are no injuries or illnesses, he may have to wait.
