Looks like the Bruins wanted the Sabres. They dressed their starters top to bottom and dominated the first before shutting NJ down for the summer. I will say it is an intriguing match up and takes us back to the good old days (and sometimes bad but never boring).

Some believe starting on the road is preferrable.

Be careful what you wish for.

I still can’t forget or forgive the Peter McNabb for Andre Savard trade from the good old days,

Bruins fans chanted wanting Buffalo so I hope to see us throttle them.

The Bruins and their fans are going to get exactly what they want. And I’m here for it.

Some folks are saying the road team has an opportunity to steal the series with a split when the series opens on the road. That’s silly because the Sabres are really good.

There’s no way Buffalo starting on the road is a better deal for the Sabres. Home ice advantage will come up huge. Key Bank Center will be shaking this weekend. That’s a wave we want to ride.

Well they had a choice (unless Ottawa throws the last one) and they chose Buffalo over Carolina. Now all playoffs are tough and undecided. Many variables, luck and whatever but I can see why. They don't do well against a speedy aggressive forecheck and that's what Carolina does better than anybody (aside from a healthy Florida). If you were them wouldn't you prefer the playoff rookies who prefer open ice games and have a reputation for being soft?

I can understand why they chose Buffalo based on the curse reputation, but it’s also a fatal flaw for them. The Sabres are a better team.

Who isn't great in the East, and the Atlantic in particular? We had to climb over all these teams to win the division so it's not like we don't have a chance.

Remember the words of the great philosophers Glen Frey and Jackson Browne...

"We may lose or we may win, but we will never be here again. So open up, I'm climbing in. Take it easy."

I agree with a lot of this, and I think that overall TG probably is a good guy.  But I think it's pretty well established that:

- TG and LQ were calling the shots, not Darcy.

- LQ and DR had negotiated a long-term extension with Drury in the Fall of 2026 that Drury was ready to sign, but TG, who famously believed that no one should have a contract with a term longer than 1 day, refused to sign it for months -- and by the time he was ready, it was the Spring, and Drury was PO'd and only a few months away from UFA, and he said thanks but no thanks.

- Briere was willing to sign a discounted extension in the Fall of 2026, but TG and LQ decided they didn't need him because they were going to extend Drury.  By the time they realized that they had lost Drury, and thus needed to keep Briere, Briere was close to UFA and was no longer willing to sign at a discount -- and TG was not willing to pay the market rate for Briere.

- The same GD pattern repeated itself the next year with Soupy, which is how they lost him.

It was a total debacle that was completely unnecessary and that arose out of cheapness and stubbornness.  It destroyed a great hockey team that was at least as likeable as the current Sabres team.

So again I don't think TG is a bad guy, but I'm not willing to sugarcoat what he did to my team.

I assume those dates should all read 2006?

Didn’t Glen and Jackson say that while standing on the corner of Winslow Arizona?

Anyone catch the Rick Bowness post game  explosion yesterday ? After that initial surge, they finished 2-8-1.  Will they keep him to make changes ?

Are you really firing a coach after half a season?

I didn't but I went looking. Here is a link if anyone else is curious. I took this as trying to set a tone for next season, not trying to keep his job.

“Those guys are so lucky there is no practice tomorrow”. He was pi**ed.

IMO they finished about where I expected them to. Their big run was way above their ‘pay’ grade. New coach bump.

His hiring didn't provide them a Bowness.

Wait for the girl, my lord, with a flatbed ford, and see if she’ll slow down and take a look at me.

And TO ends up with the 5th best lottery odds.  So, if somebody with the 6th - 14th best odds ends up moving up and they don't then they have to give away the 6th best pick in the draft.  If they or only teams ahead of them win the 2 draws, then they get to keep the pick.

So, do we want them to lose 6 or 7 or have a strong chance of losing an even better pick next year?

Personally, expect having to give away 6 works.

It’s still kinda crazy to me that among the 16 playoff teams, Buffalo (4th overall), Philadelphia (11th overall), and Anaheim (19th overall) are the only teams without a player who played at a greater than point a game clip. We really did do it with depth, and were the only team quite like that in the top 10
