It's past time, bench Jack Quinn

I loved Jack Quinn when he came back last year. He was all over the ice, seemed to pick up where he left off and was just moving and grooving. This year he looks awful.

He doesn't skate at all and instead glides around like he is at the olympics, warming up for non competitive ice lounging. He doesn't make plays in space or in tight. Last night I watched him get a puck and just fire it away down the ice... there was no opposing player within 10ft of him. He doesn't shoot, he doesn't go to the dirty areas, he doesn't check, he doesn't really do much of anything other than his best Victor Olofsson impression. They need to bench him and play either Kulich or when healthy Benson. If they aren't willing to play those 2, they need to trade for a top 6 player because right now, Quinn isn't even worth the roster slot.

Quinn is absolutely struggling right now.  Said a few days ago that expect it's in large part due to not fully understanding what he needs to be doing now that for the 1st time in his professional career he has a coach that expects him to play within a structure and he's thinking out on the ice which you absolutely can't do with the speed of the game at this level.  Sitting in the press box 2-3 games with one of the coaches right next to him explaining what's going on and what he should be doing were he the one on the ice will do wonders for his play.

It also wouldn't hurt to get him away from Cozens for a few games, but with the other 3 lines all working, that's pretty much an impossibility rihgt now.  Have advocated for putting Peterka onto that line when Benson is healthy as the expectation is that he'll get more production out of those 2 than the top line production will diminish.

Had Quinn not gotten the ENG against Detroit, expect he would've gone to the press box rather than Kulich.  But, when a guy that isn't getting it finally does something good, it's really not the right time to make a move that could be interpreted as a punishment.  (Sending him to the PB isn't a punishment, it's part of him learning what he needs to be doing; but the timing would've been awful to send him where he should be.)

And if you're Aube-Kubel what's going through your mind when you're told you're finally healthy enough to be in the lineup but instead of being with your normal line that you have chemistry with, you're going to be out there with the guy that needs an empty net to score on and the guy that can't even do that right now.  Thanks, Coach.  😉

Cozens to 4C, Krebs to 2C, with Quinn and NAK.  Or if you want to look at it differently, Quinn to the 4th line, Lafferty/Benson to the 2nd line.

Krebs is never going to be a true 2C but as a temporary measure to shake things up... yeah, maybe.

Sad, but true. In the past, he's looked dynamic and he's made the JJP-Cozens line go. This season, he's lost.

Now that Aube-Kubel is back, give Quinn this weekend's back-to-back games off. And if Benson is healthy, then get Kulich back to Rochester's top line. Kulich needs playing time.

It's the lack of aggression that bothers me the most. He is not hard on pucks or opposing players. That is not a system problem that is a Quinn problem. He seems to be waiting for others to do the work and feed him a puck. To some extent I have always felt he was a little bit like that but not to this degree.

Regarding new coach, you'd hope Appert would have familiarity from their time together in ROC and be able to assist. Another piece is potentially what's going in their personal lives.  23 years old, both him and Cozens.  Girlfriend problems?  We all know from our own careers it's pretty easy for some one to suck at work when going through stuff at home.  Not suggesting it's any of our business, just throwing it out there.

Time for an 8 year extension while the price is right.  Use that skinner money.

What Quinn's poor play is doing is making financial decisions easier. If this continues, he's a trade chip or a bridge contract. If he had hit the season rolling, he'd be with JJP at the top of the list for GM Sheevyn to lock up with all that future cap space (he needed to save cap space for?...because, you know, how the NFL cap can rollover and...yeah penny-pinching winning isn't important internal EEE cap.) on another 7x7.25 deal.

Cozens is not scoring but is still playing better than both Krebs and Quinn. I don’t understand your affection for Krebs, who is a 4th line spare forward player.   Krebs is not a 2C under any circumstance.  Lafferty has done nothing to earn 2nd line minutes.

Quinn needs to sit and watch a few games.

Play McLoed, Zucker, Greenway as a 2nd line.  Spot Benson in with them at times.

Play Cozens, Benson, and Kulich as a 3rd line

Leave the 4th with combinations of KAB, Malenstyn, Lafferty, Krebs.

Yeah, it might be personal lives, but it doesn't matter. They get paid a salary to produce at their jobs and they are not. Quinn is a joke on the ice and deserves to be in scratched and/or traded. Frankly I'd prefer if him and Cozens were taken out of the line-up. I don't care how potentially good Cozens is right now, he's still not doing anything. He makes really stupid plays and he's lost on the defensive zone. He was lost last year and the year before.

You can't have a "second" line that sucks this bad. You just cannot. If the Sabres want to talk about winning, they need to take the steps to win.

I hate to say this, but Quinn's problem is Cozens.  Their games don't mesh IMHO.  Despite claims on this board that he has playmaking skills, his highest and best use is that of a sniper.

With Benson hurt, there is no one on the 2nd line capable of driving offense.

We need another center to move Cozens to W and that could in turn help Quinn.

To bad KA traded away a center for the failing Byram and then didn't get a top 6 center to replace Mitts as most of this board wanted.

What in fresh hell happened to my favourite player?

I have not been able to watch much of the team so far this season.

What an absolute bummer, though.

For those asking for an assignment to Roch, I presume that can't happen without exposing him to waivers. In which case, it is not happening.

For those suggesting he be traded, that is folly. Given what they know the young man has in him, it would be asinine to trade him when his value is so low.

Cozens is taking a LOT of shots.  Could it be he is so desperate to get that first goal that he's taking all the shots, not looking to get his wingers involved at all?

Cozens leads the team in shots. He's taking 25% more shots per game than last year. 40% more than his career average.

Its not the only thing for sure wrong with Quinns game, but if Cozens is just letting a shot off all the time without looking to get Quinn invovled, it might be something?

To the bolded, correct.  Only Levi and Kulich can get sent to Ra-cha-cha without clearing waivers.  (Benson would not have to clear to  be sent down either, but he's not eligible to play in Ra-cha-cha.)

Interesting thought, but that doesn't seem to be it.  A LOT of Cozens shots are coming from high danger areas and until the Detroit game hadn't seen Quinn in those areas at all for the most part.  Kulich and Benson have gotten to those HD areas better than Quinn, but don't believe that Cozens has been avoiding passing to them.  Other than the fact that right now Cozens literally couldn't hit the broad side of a barn, so personally don't want to see him take ANY shots, can't really ottomh think of a time he shot when the pass was clearly the superior play (again, except for the fact that right now his having the puck in the crease with no goalie is a lower percentage play than passing it away from there to a D-man at the blue line).
