Disturbing video of Danny Briere's son

I watch the video and just think of how he has zero self awareness. He couldn't connect the dots that the wheelchair was being used by a person.  For a kid with all the resources in the world and probably getting into the best schools he is one of the dumbest people you will encounter.

This thread is offensive. What if your kid made a mistake? You want it all over the internet…. No! I don’t see how this is even remotely related to our Sabres. I’d be mortified if it was my kid, but for the love of God, Danny was awesome for us. I’m disgusted with myself for clicking on it. We are better than this. Hey we signed Levi!

Alcohol can make good people do very bad things. Not an excuse, just a fact.

If he was not even drinking, I'd say that its worse

So because Danny was awesome for us his son gets a pass on his bad behaviour?

The internet does bring things to the forefront that used to stay hidden. the world has changed. You don't get to jock your way out of as many things today as you did back in the day and that's just the way it is.

We should be better?

No, HE should be better.

I'm sure he knew it was used by a person who needed it ... And thought it would be hilarious to push it down the stairs. Sadly there are people like that in the world who lack empathy.

I said I didn’t want to promote this topic any further, but you provided a thoughtful response, so I don’t want to ignore you. My sentence regarding him being Danny’s son was awkward. Agreed that a celebrity’s kid should get no breaks for that status. Hard stop, no exceptions. His behavior disgusts me. So we agree there.

Totally disagree with it being harder to “jock” your way out is harder today. It might get more media coverage, but it’s still just as rampant imho. It’s just being caught on tape more. These guys wouldn’t give their public mea culpas if they hadn’t been taped. I think we would probably agree on it over beers.

We can all be better.

Public shaming sucks. I don’t want to be apart of a fan base that public shames. There’s plenty of other forums out there for that. Ones I  don’t participate in. This is a hockey forum, not a public shaming town center forum. I think? Right?

Another minor point is how many degrees of separation do we need for it to become relevant on here? Was there a thread celebrating his kids scholarship for college hockey. Probably not.

And please understand, the kids actions disgust me. Period. No excuses.

Cheers.

Fans of a team expressing their displeasure on a little message board… Is not public shaming. Full stop.

Facebook, Instagram, Twitter … those have much bigger bull horns and participate regularly in public shaming. Some completely rightfully so and some completely not.

and lastly, this message board is more than just hockey talk. It’s allowed, it’s encouraged, it’s practiced. And if you look at the thread titles you’ll quickly see that.

👍🏼

A bar in Erie Pa with massive profits?

Do you think Erieites don't drink?

It's funny tho. No one wants to address the idea that a handicapped woman had to be carried down stairs. Yep the villain is DANNY BRIERE's son for pushing an inanimate object.

Eleven covered it fairly well, actually.

Unless you are talking about a fairly big city or corporate bar, alot of bars are small, family owned  businesses with small budgets.  That’s why ADA grandfathers in existing establishments.  The cost to renovate to make an old building handicap accessible would shut a number of small businesses down.

Glad this kid is being charged. Scumbag move on his part. Sure, he’s young and kids do dumb things, but this doesn’t mean they should be immune to the justice system. Plus, guarantee people would be screaming “White Privilege” if nothing was done.

My wife had her wheelchair stolen in Vegas once. Some drunk couple took it when her back was turned. For a joy ride. We’re they drunk? Yes. Should they have known better, yes. Security tracked it down but that’s because we were in a casino.

What this kid did is disgusting. And being drunk or young isn’t an excuse. This isn’t on Danny, this is on those two pieces of crap.

No matter how old you are, I think we can all agree it’s wrong. It’s not a stupid kid mistake. It’s blatant disregard for the person who’s disabled.

His apology was weak and insincere. Should he be jailed? No. Should his punishment be community service in the disabled arena, yes.

when it comes to messing with a disabled person, I have zero sympathy. They’ve got it f’ing hard enough already.

I don't disagree with most of this but I would just say this isn't really a public shaming forum. We discuss hockey here, not just the Sabres. I wouldn't want to go on and on about this topic in the general "around the league" thread but a separate thread is fine and eventually the topic gets old and buried and we move on. Anything related to hockey is a relevant topic here and with Briere being named interim Flyers GM the timing of this incident made it even more relevant.

Well to be fair its a horrible mistake he made, and most of these don't get the worldwide fame he has.   Just hope for the kid the judge doesn't want make an example out of him just because of it.

I mean, to just shove it down the stairs is so...lame. Obviously the offense goes deeper than that, and aside from being something adjacent to a hate crime, I'm deeply offended by how cowardly and lame this was.

You wanna be a 1980s teen movie bully cliché? That's weak, but at least put some skin in the game and ride the damned chair down the stairs, coward.

The story I read stated that she was allowed to/encouraged to use the employee-only restroom.  I’m guessing a packed bar like that would be hard for a wheelchair user to navigate. That doesn’t mean there are upstairs bathrooms, but I cannot imagine everyone has to go downstairs like that.

The right move. In my opinion.

Can he come back from this? Sure. Just probably not as a hockey player that’s going to make the NHL. There are a million jobs that surround the game of hockey… Maybe can get into one of those. Maybe he can become an agent.
