1974/75 Revisited - Six 30 goal scorers

Seeing Tuch hit 30 goals and realizing this team could have four 30 goal scorers made me reminisce when the 1974-75 Sabres were the first team ever to have six 30 goal scorers. They also had a 26 and 25 goal guy.

The record was later tied by 77/78 Islanders and 84/85 Jets.

Most Sabre fans can probably name the 6 Sabre players and maybe the two with 26 and 25. The islander guys are pretty easy too but only a grand master will be able to name the Jet guys.

Anyway, is it inconceivable that this version of the Sabres could eventually match that record? What say you?

Match it, how about they break it?

Thompson, Tuch, Skinner, Cozens, Peterka, Quinn, and one of Kulich, Savoie, Dahlin, or Mittelstadt.

Tom remembers it so well because he was playing in the WHA at that time.

That team also had a 22 goal scorer that season who was promptly traded away after scoring 24 the next season.

Yes and speaking of the WHA, one of the few times Punch admitted to screwing up, he let one of those 30 goal scorers bolt to the WHA.

But please don't ask which team would win if they played each other.🙄

I was staring to wonder if Tuch would make it back in time to make it to 30.  I guess he answered that one pretty quickly.  Jersey cheated a bit with Meier, but they've got 3 already... and probably 2 more on the way in Hischier and Bratt, both at 28.  If Marner can start scoring a bit (24) he'd be the 4th for Toronto.  Hyman (29) will take Edmonton up to 4.

It's crazy how much goal scoring talent is out there right now.  That's a nice little change in New Jersey compared to when they tried to kill hockey.

Speaking of asterisks, the Red Wings one year had 5 plus Jimmy Carson who scored 25 for them and reached 30 after being traded to LA and one year, Edmonton had 5 plus Paul Coffey with 29.

To be fair to the Devils, the first team to use the neutral zone trap were the Canadiens under Cosch Dick Irvin Sr. and GM Tommy Gorman.  If you watch the Sabres-Habs games on YouTube, you will see how they played it and Buffalo beat it.

Which is why Jacques Lemaire brought the trap from Montreal.

Such a fun team to watch.  Luce and Ramsay, our 'checking line' , scoring like they did while playing incredible defense was pretty remarkable.
