The Sabres haven't scored less then 3 goals in a game since the 2nd game of the season.

4 - 3 goal games.

8 - 4 goal games.

7 - 5 goal games.

6 - 6 goal games.

3 - 7 goal games

1 - 8 goal game.

and tonight marks the first 9 goal game of the season.

That is a total of 95 goals in 26 games which is 4th best in the NHL and is on pace for 290 total goals through an entire season if this pace keeps up.

Comparably we had 229 last season, and 218 the season before that, a whopping 60 - 70 goals less then what is projected for this season.

As this team ages and grows those muscles which in turns makes them more confident and more able to be physical and hit more, and as they learn to play better defense this team will become a force to be reckoned with. And if this team can find a bona-fide number 1 goal-tender also? There is no possible way this team doesn't make the play-offs for many years to come.

All aboard the Sabres train because this baby is just getting started.

We do have a talented young offense with enormous upside. Tage is fantastic. Great with the puck around the net and a giant shot.

As long as these players make a commitment in the off-season (getting stronger; stick handling; skating) and continue to play selfless hockey, they will put up points and we will get better.

Defense needs input (another two way center; and 1-2 more defensemen).

Sabres have scored 5+ goals 10 times now this year. In other words in nearly 40% of their games, they get to at least 5 goals...if that isn't best in the NHL, it has to be top 3.

They have scored 4+ goals 16 times this year, or 61.5% of games.  That is absurd.

But now the question becomes...how much is their free-wheeling style leading to lots of goals against?  And could they be better being slightly less free-wheeling and more defensively responsible?

Fire wagon hockey and minimal defencive structure are a large part of the problems on defence.

They are.  They definitely are.  But thinking about it, maybe the plan is to essentially be an updated 80's Eulers.  And maybe they are instilling the D into the practices but aren't planning on using it in games unless they actually need it.  I.e., if they know they can outscore the opponent, why kill themselves playing D?

Those Euler teams freewheeling though the entire '82-'83 season & got crushed by the Aisles.  That next year, they still freewheeled but bore down against the Aisles who had just been through 3 much harder series getting there than Edmonton had faced.  Calgary was tougher because of the rivalry but it was still fairly wide open hockey.

And that attitude - freewheel when you can, play responsible when you must won them 5 in 7 years.  And also drew fans everywhere.

No, don't really expect that'd the true plan, but wouldn't be surprised if there's a hint of truth to it.  Meaning, they'll always go on the attack when it looks "right" & they'll always look for it, but they might be a bit more cautious and not "go for it" at absolutely every opportunity.  They're going to view giving up scoring chances as the price for generating a #### ton of scoring chances of their own.

Which would put them in the position of treating goalies like RBs in the NFL.  Get a young one that is good enough, beat the snot out of him for 3 or so years then after the flesh is picked off his carcass go back & find another one.  In which case they probably will follow that Cane model of goalie by committee.

(Sorry, just random associating at this point.  It's Friday & was a long week.)

Our attack is one of the best, but I forgot when we ourselves let in less than 3 goals.
