Wow.  Only 5 - '04 or later B-days in there.  That's more geared towards 20 yo's than expected.

Bedard & Fantilli the only 2 in this year's draft (?).

Edit - didn't notice 2 of the goalies are draft eligible as 20 yo's.

Well, that better put a bee in his bonnet and have a strong 2nd half.

He is on a good team that can win the WHL and maybe the Memorial Cup. He can play a prominent role there and round out his all round game to prepare himself for an NHL spot next year.

So any of our young guys playing?

And is Savoie not in the roster because he’s not good enough or maybe the Sabres didn’t want him to go?

I’m sure the Sabres would love for him to go

Canada has 2 elite youngsters playing Center and filled around them with older players.
Just give Savoie extra motivation for the 2nd half.

Is there more to the story with Savoie?  Getting the invite doesn't mean you make the team.  Would seem low risk to me for Canada to have brought him to the selection camp this month.  He should have more talent than some of the others on the invite list.

That’s exactly what I was thinking.  He can also play wing so there’s no excusing the two centers ahead of him.
I don’t understand why he was left off.

In another thread I mentioned he's 30-something in PPG in the WHL. As much as we don't want to believe it, the reason is likely that he's just not playing well enough right now.

Let's hope that it's just a short term injury holding him back.

When Reinhart was in the Sabres org, I recall a story about how he lit it up in the WHL in the year preceding his draft and then took a step back in the year after the Sabres drafted him. I recall the report stating that the Sabres had essentially planned for/caused this to happen because they asked Reinhart to return to juniors but focus on certain things (weight gain? strengthening?) that would help him as a prospect but not help him in the short-term of his final season in juniors.

Any chance that's what's going on with Savoie? Because otherwise - woof.

I recall this as well. Reinhart was asked to focus on aspects of his game other than scoring.

Savoie is a top player on one of the top teams in the WHL, he must be doing something right.

I wouldn’t read anything into it at all

the team is basically made up of guys drafted in 21

The 5 that were invited who were in 22 draft or draft eligible

Bedard and Fantilli ; expected to go #1 and #2 in the 23 draft

Reid Schaefer - 6’3 forward to play a role that Savoie wouldn’t / couldn’t play

Owen Beck would have a role as a bottom line center and face off specialist but unlikely to make the team

Jordan Dumais Who is tearing up the Q and has a chance to be their 13th forward

note. - Shane Wright could be loaned out

Bottom line is that even though it  would be great to see Savoie on team Canada they leaned towards older players (sans Bedard and Fantilli) so there is absolutely nothing to be concerned about

We will see what happens in ‘24   Hopefully he has a significant role with the Sabres and they say “no thank you” when Team Canada comes calling

Had noticed that lack of younger guys upthread.  Watch the WJCs every year but hadn't really paid attention to the ages of the players that much but always thought there were significantly more than just 3 D+1 players in most years.  (1 - 3 draft eligible players seemed about right, but not the few D+1's.)

Any thoughts on why the roster is skewing that old?
