The Goalie Carousel in the NHL

Vanecek, Husso, MAF,

I think I am missing someone. Have all been traded or signed in the last 24 hours.

If anyone has the corresponding tweets to document this stuff, would be cool to post it. Just wanted to collect everything in one spot.

The Husso deal maybe would have made sense for us.

Well since this is a goalie thread… just to state it for a reference… A shallow free-agent goalie market got even thinner. Instead of letting “The Flower” sprout onto the UFA market, the Wild kept Marc-Andre Fleury in the fold. The Wild signed “MAF” with a two-year, $7 million deal ($3.5M per year).

Summary

I guess the good news is that Campbell, Kuemper, probably Talbot and Allen are still out there. Maybe KA goes after Gibson?  However he needs to get moving on this. I wonder if Grier will part with Hill or Riemer?

UFA's of interest still for Sabres?

Kuemper- 3 years $6-7million, no thanks

Campbell- 4 years $5-6million, no thanks

Holtby- 3 years $3-4 million, it might have to do

Greiss- 1 year $2.5 million, if all else fails

Trades

Gibson- too long of term remaining at too high of an AAV,  please God NO!!!

Quick- I wouldn't mind for one year for a third rd pick

Hill or Reimer- figure one of them has to be moved

Talbot- does Wild move him to not have competition for MAF

Hart- bit of a stretch but does Philly go for big UFA and trade Hart??

Allen- not really been a starter but could see 50/50 with Anderson

Neither of these is a bad idea.  Campbell will be tradeable when Levi arrives and Holtby at that range is not cost- or term-prohibitive.

My understanding is Holtby has some serious health issues.

What's stopping us from offering RFA Oettinger a fat deal?  These are last year's numbers but the Sabres could offer up to $4.1MM/AAV for 5 years and only end up owing Dallas a 2nd round pick. You could go $6.1MM/AAV for 5 and lose a 1st and 3rd.

What about keeping the path clear for your prospects? To me that's secondary if Oettinger plays well. And if he doesn't you still have UPL, Levi and Leinonen in the pipeline.

I knew it would be difficult for the Sabres to find a quality G. I don’t think GMKA is sitting on his hands but I think it’s going to be tough. Most G with a NMC probably have Buffalo on the no trade list, a quality FA probably wants to play for a contender so maybe a guy like Holtby with something to prove would want to come here?
