Haven’t heard any other news. He was supposed to be ready for this camp. Must’ve had a setback or a doctor would not provide clearance.

Hopefully good for the prospect tournament.

A good start in the WHlL will get him a chance at the World Junior Team.

He’ll fit right in with the Sabres.

WJC tuneup game. Finland beat Czechia 6-4. Kulich had 2 goals and an assist.

I so excited about that kid.  Apparently at development camp Rousek and Pekar took the kid under their wing and helped him acclimate as he apparently doesn’t speak much English yet.

The comparison to Oloffson is an exciting one to think about. Oloffson in the AHL the year before his rookie season (age 23 in the AHL) put up near identical numbers to JJP last season (age 19). Quinn put up even better numbers. If they can come in and produce like Oloffson’s rookie season (20g and 42 points in 54 games), the Sabres will be in good shape to compete for a playoff spot. Oloffson in his rookie season got better linemates and likely more ice time than JJP and Quinn likely will, so getting that level of production would be hard, but they also are younger and have a shot at growing more.

The kid is a bull.  I can see him becoming a fan favourite when he plays for the Sabres

Really don’t think this board understands what kind of player Poltapov is.

He forechecks and disrupts like Vaclav Varada, but also might have enough skill to play in a top 6.

Loved how Varada played, but as you imply, he lacked some skills!  We used to refer to him ala Roberto Duran as our Sabres' version of Mr. "Hands of Stone"!

Sounds like someone who’d do great alongside Cozens in a strong 2 way line. I think KA is trying to build a team that can run four lines all night, without too much difference in minutes. In a few years, I  think we could end up with an average first line, a second line that is more like a below average first line/High end second line, and a third line that is like an average second line. Skinner, Tuch, Quinn, JJP, Oloffson?, Rosen, Kisakov, Poltapov, bloom, Neuchev, and Nadeau are all possibilities to fill the wing spots and make that happen. Between Thompson, Cozens, Krebs, mitts, Savoie, Kulich, and Östlund we should have the centers to make it work as well.

I read up on him a bit after seeing the video this morning.  When do people  think he will be ready and available for North America?

He is under contract with CSKA until the 24-25 Season. So the earliest would be 25-26

Wow.  The Sabres should be contenders by then if Adams's plan works, and if it doesn't, this guy isn't going to turn things around.  Might as well deal him.

If the Sabres are contenders by then and Poltopov is any good, It would be great for the team.  They will most likely be up against the cap and bringing in a developed 23 year old guy who can walk in and play in the middle 6 for ELC money would be a great help.

These are both very valid counter-opinions.  Gonna do a strikethrough on mine.

Just a reminder, in Junior Varada had 2 seasons in the mid 80 point range in the relatively low scoring WHL and was scoring at nearly a point per game and nearly 0.5 gpg in his rookie AHL year and then put up 30 goals in 48 games before being brought up for good.

Varada was supposed to be a Varada that could play in the top 6.  Just sayin`.
