Doohickie Posted May 16, 2022 Report Share Posted May 16, 2022 A good deep run will give these youngsters valuable experience that will help the Sabres when they get down to crunch time down the stretch next season. I hope that Krebs can bring this up to the bigs. I feel like he's really close and the challenge of AHL playoff hockey is really honing his skills. Arttu might be getting hooked on North American hockey and the Sabres hooked on him. I could see him following a similar path as Olofsson.... primarily a power play specialist before working more into the general lineup. JJ is just killing it. I felt he was ready this season, he for sure is ready for the NHL in the fall. Quinn will likely be up too. I could see a Quinn-Krebs-Peterka third line scoring like Vanek-Roy-Afeinogenov did back in the day. ROC_exEMT Posted May 16, 2022 Report Share Posted May 16, 2022 I purchased the Playoff subscription for $30 from TheAHL so I could watch the Amerks but I gotta say Sunday's broadcast left a lot to be desired. What's with showing goal replays DURING LIVE GAME ACTION??!!?? You can't wait for a whistle to do that? Sound was all over the place at the beginning of the game, sound was muted at times when the period started or when coming back from a commercial and as it came on you could hear the announcers talking thereby missing whatever they said. At one point in the 2nd period during live play all of a sudden someone must've hit the wrong button in the control booth and they started playing highlights of previous games. Yep, at least on home games they don’t leave the commentators microphone on during commercials. the man has been congested all freaking season. JohnC Posted May 16, 2022 Report Share Posted May 16, 2022 Next year Krebs, JJ and Quinn are likely going to be added to the Sabre roster. As young players they should have a lot of upside. If you presume, as I do, that Cozens and Mitts are ready to make strides in their respective games as NHL players, you can see the roster filling out. And let's not forget how impressive Power was in his introductory stint at the end of the season. You can see the organic (players within the system) growth of this roster. This offseason, the GM doesn't need to bring in a quantity of players to round out this roster. Just a few judicious additions, that must include a quality goaltender, will continue to keep this team on an upward trajectory. For the most part internal improvement and internal competition will propel this team. Even the skeptics have to acknowledge that compared to a year or two ago what was thought to be a very dark situation has turned into a very bright and hopeful situation. 3 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I have also heard that teams have been covering Quinn hard, which whilst limiting him, leaves ice open for his teammates (who have been scoring). Among other things, he mentioned that Quinn, JJ, and Krebs have responded well to the physical challenges of Utica. Peterka led the team with 11 hits on Sunday, followed by Quinn with nine. That was nice to hear. People who aren’t watching shouldn’t be getting impression Quinn is getting tossed around, or is shying away from contact. I think it is better described as he is having more trouble escaping contact. The Quinn I watched most of the year has excelled at finding spaces within the patterns of the game, then exploiting them with a subtle lateral movement to gain separation, to set up some exquisite one-touch passes or that deadly shot. What’s happening now is shadowing: he is being marked so tightly that checkers are ignoring the other aspects of the game to subtly grab, poke, taunt and interfere with him. He is battling through it, but he doesn’t have JJ’s burst, or his low body strength and the battle is costing him the split second of space he is used to exploiting so well.
