GDT: Sabres at Bruins 4-28-22 7PM

I'm not sure if the Bruins are playing their full team or resting people tonight, but if it's close to the main team it'll be a good test for the Sabres. We go good in the wide open games but the Bruins play the tightest D in the league. They'd be a solid cup contender if their offense wasn't so mediocre. It'll be interesting to see if we can deal with that or not.

We get Ullmark tonight though if that makes anybody's day.

Realizing there are no do overs.  But how close would this team seem to be at this moment if Ullmark were still a Sabre?

Could very likely have been in the 80's this year and then you're only looking at needing to find 1 more win each month on average to get to the playoffs.

Good question. I do wonder about those who think they can make the jump to a playoff team with the addition of a goalie and a vet RD. 25-30 points is a big one season jump. 🤞🏻

The Sabres have lost 19 games by 1 goal, and an additional 4 games by 2 in which an empty netter has been scored.

This means they've been within 1 goal in 23 of their losses by the end of the game. If we had a good goalie, maybe we win 13 of those games? That puts us close to playoff contention.

If GMKA has a strong off-season and brings in a real goalie for UPL to back-up, and spends some money to bring in established D-men who can both contribute and mentor Power/Dahlin, we're going to be making the playoffs next year. You have another year of development for Tage, Mitts, Krebs, Cozens plus brining up JJ & Quinn?

It'll be an interesting off-season because we'll have to hit the floor. I'd like to see us throw a similar deal we gave Hall to Patty Kane. 1 year / 9 million. Put him on a line with Quinn and Cozens or something.

Ok, a lot of things could change....the team could play differently in front of a different goalie...etc.

But, strictly by the basic number:

-Ulmark has a save percentage this year of .914.  His career is .913. Last year with Buffalo was .917. 2 years ago .915.  So, it seems like he is consistent...with Buffalo, With Boston. His whole career, etc....you are getting about .915 out of him.

-The Sabres as a team have a .894 save percentage this year.

Lets say Ulmark here would get the majority of the games played. 60 games (yes that is high but for argument sake)

-Over 75% of the games played, the strict numbers say with an .915 save percentage, the Sabres would allow about 40 goals less.

Right now the Sabres are a -54 in goals scored/allowed. With 40 less goals allowed, they would be a -14.

minus 14 puts them slightly worse than Winnipeg and the Islanders (both at -8) and close to Dallas. No other teams are in that area. So where does that all shake out?  'By the numbers', about a point per game, or about 80-82 points, maybe a tad more (dallas is a bit of an anomoly here) is where they would be now. By the numbers if you calculate it that way.

Except for Kane having a year left on his deal, so that not being an option, am likin' it.

Now this is a game where a win would give all of us a nice smiley feeling to hold onto during the offseason.

And if Fitzie were to lay out Marchand...

Agree.  This could send a message that we are not the same old Sabres.  Or not.

Riggghht....let's trade for him then.

Sorry.  Should've been more clear.  Gave a thumbs up to your overall post.  Was pointing out that it was for what was said other than the Kane stuff.

Did NOT mean, nor mean to imply, that they should trade for Kane.

🍺

It will if he loses 😁
