It's the right place to start him out but it is disappointing as he'd be one of the few pieces to really pay attention to this season.

Wouldn't be surprised to see him back by Christmas.

Really hoping the only reason Eakin is still around is to keep him from taking ice time from somebody on either squad.  It was my expectation he would be kept up for that purpose.   If he's in the lineup Thursday ...   grrrrrrrrrrrr.

Skinner - Mittelstadt - Hinostroza

Bjork - Cozens - Olofsson

Asplund - Thompson - Okposo

Girgensons - Eakin - Ruotsalainen

Dahlin - Jokiharju

Hagg - Miller

Butcher - Pysyk

...about right? If the lines look wonky..I haven't seen the preseason

If you saw the preseason you’d know that any combination looks wonky.

Skinner - Mittelstadt - Hinostroza

Bjork - Girgensons -  Olofsson

Asplund - Ruotsalainen - Okposo

Hayden - Thompson - Cozens

W/ Cagiulla & Eakin as spares was my guess in the F's thread & will stick w/ it.

Dahlin - Jokiharju

Hagg - Miller

Butcher - Pysyk

is my guess at D though hate each and every 1 of those pairings.  If they could get Borgen back it could become:

Dahlin - Borgen

Butcher/Hagg - Jokiharju

Hagg/Butcher -Miller/Pysyk

which aren't much better, but at least there's some balance.  And Butcher- Joker is strictly based on a hunch from how they looked against Detroit.  On paper that should be bad but it seemed to work.

If we are sacrificing a whole year to "development", Cozens needs to be at centre. If Cozens doesn't end up a C we are in a world of hurt

There's 82 games.  If he spends the 1st 10 at wing getting his confidence back, he still has 72 left to develop in the pivot.

Oh definitely. I'll have to fact-check you on the 82 games thing but otherwise I agree.

My comment was more looking at the situation overall - to me he needs to play the bulk of his games at C : imo he, along with Dahlin, are the two guys at the very top of the list of guys we most need to reach their potential, it's of the utmost importance. You are correct that should he spend a stint at W it's no big deal.

If Adams felt confident enough in Cozens to pretty much let the C position go unaddressed in the offseason, IMO he should commit to Cozens taking his lumps there if he needs to while he learns how to play the position. The whole premise of why Adams' strategy is going to work out okay for us is supposedly because we believe the kids, like Cozens, are of a stronger mold and won't be daunted by the losses sure to be on the way this season, right? I'd argue that's basically a requirement considering how Adams shaped the roster. Cozens needs to be hardy - it's implicit. He should therefore be ok struggling and learning at C - if we are sacrificing a year of being an in-good-faith entertainment product to "develop", you gotta let Cozens develop at C. Who else is it more important we develop?

If it turns out the best thing for Cozens *is* wing, for the longer term, I really gotta question the the current overall system layout being allowed to get to that position where we'd basically be a barren wasteland at C. If we don't land Wright (15%?) anyone we MIGHT get is years and years from being a 1C.

They clearly are attaching a lot of their aspirations to their belief in Cozens, and Cozens at centre. They do need to be right.

I’ve already admitted I’ve given this team very little energy or space in my life this preseason but is R2 ACTUALLY going to be 4th line wing?

I haven't watched the preseason either so I actually don't know, no, haha. I never know where to put him - he's still an unknown to me.

Yes I agree.  I could see the right side wingers moving around in the lines still.

They clearly are attaching a lot of their aspirations to their belief in Cozens, and Cozens at centre. They do need to be right.

They are expecting Cozens to become at least a 2C, if not a 1C, on a good team.

But the only guys that can "shelter" Cozens from having to be there today if they play him at C are a kid that was where Cozens currently is just 2 seasons ago and a checking specialist winger that played C 6 or so years ago.  They are setting him up to be in over his head, just like they did Mitts 3 years ago & look at how much development time he lost because of it.

Rather than do that to Cozens, let him play the simpler game to start, & once he starts feeling his oats slide him back to C and see where he's at.

We've had the next part of this discussion many times and are on similar pages.  Adams says he doesn't want guys "blocked."  Slotting them in properly to roles they're ready for isn't "blocking" it's developing.  And dumping (each, for completely different reasons) their entire starting 6 from last year is NOT removing blocks, it's setting kids up to fail.  And, IMHO, setting people up to fail is the opposite of developing them.

Thing is, IF Tokarski can keep that horseshoe up his butt & Anderson doesn't turn into a corpse by our Thanksgiving (happy Thanksgiving, btw) this team will end up in very low '70's which shouldn't be horrendously traumatizing.  If they can't, & this team gets 55-62 points, they've completely wasted a development year they didn't have to waste.

My guess is 3rd line, either C or W.

They are attaching their aspirations about *not* building around any one player (as they did with Eichel).  As such, no they don't need Cozens at center.  They need the best team over all, with the contributions and talents of each player maximized.  For now, and perhaps into the future, that *could* mean Cozens on the wing.  Although even if he primarily plays wing I don't see Granato making the mistake that coaches past made with Reinhart; Cozens will get some time at center I'm pretty sure.  But it's about the team's success, chemistry, and the development of the players including Cozens.

When I read this I was thinking Calder Cup contenders for sure, maybe favorites.

then I read your last line.
