When any of their currently IR'd players are ready to play, a rostered player will need to be waived, IR'd, or traded for a player that won't be rostered  in order to make room to activate them.  They currently have the max of 23 players on the active roster w/ about 6 more on IR.

I guess it would depend on if the Covid players are on IR?
How are they working it? Are the players put on an exemption list allowing players to come up and fill in or do they go in the same IR list as the other injured players?

No data.  Haven't seen whether players in COVID protocols can be removed from the IR prior to the typical 7 day minimum stay.  Would assume they'll be gone the full week if they've tested positive but honestly don't know what the league's protocols are this year.

Nope.

They IR'd Olesiak so they kept 9 D.  Borgen is still a Kracker.

Oleksiak, McCann, Donskoi and MoJo all previously on IR COVID-19 played tonight against Vegas.  Seems odd they don’t have to make a move before adding everyone back.  The Kraken sent two to Charlotte on Monday but brought four back from IR?

Per Puckpedia they are 1 over the cap (presumably Borgen as they've 9 active D).

Guessing they activated the last of the 4 players and then waived somebody after the 2PM waiver "deadline" so they actually are in compliance but don't know for sure what's going on with them.  Players don't get credit for being on the active roster until 5PM (except when teams have morning/afternoon games) so moves do occasionally happen after the league's transaction processing deadline.  Would seem we'll find out what's going on this afternoon.

IF Borgen got waived after the transaction deadline AND the Sabres place a claim on him would likely keep them from being able to play him tomorrow night as he wouldn't officially become a Sabre until tomorrow afternoon and he'd still need to get across the country.

They waived D man Dennis Cholowski.

It may be a good thing that Sabres have cap space and this is an example of how a team may have loose a player.  Leafs juggled, but I am betting some team won't be able to without putting someone on waivers...  https://www.nhl.com/news/toronto-signs-college-goalie-bishop-as-backup-against-senators/c-326902998?tid=277548856

Sabres will only have the 1st pick based on last season for a short while more.  IIRC, they only go on last year's record for the 1st 2 weeks (maybe it's a month) but it won't be long until this season's record is what matters.

Here's to hoping the Sabres continue to screw up their chances of having their choice of all waived players.

Yes they must be worried about losing one of their D on waivers because I think they are still carrying 8 players.

It was widely speculated that Seattle loaded up on NHL defenders because they are always in demand and teams will inevitably come knocking.

I don't buy the Jason Botterill narratives people ascribe to the Kraken; Francis is the GM, not Botterill. But this hoarding excess defencemen to the detriment of your team is pretty funny.

Are waivers based on last seasons record, or current record?

https://thehockeywriters.com/nhl-waiver-rules/

If Multiple Teams Submit Claims Who Gets the Player?

If a player is placed on waivers prior to Nov. 1, the waiver order is determined by the reverse standings order from the previous season. This means the team in last place gets the first chance to place a claim on a player.

If the player is placed on waivers after Nov. 1, then the claim order goes by the current season’s standings.

Mitts went on IR on Wednesday per Cap Friendly

Well, considering they only have 12 healthy F's and are traveling today, that was expected.

Do they take Peterka on the trip or Murray?  Or do they go off the board w/ somebody that's toiled longer on the farm waiting for their shot?
