What are we all reading now?

I can't find the old reading thread from a few years ago,, so I thought I'd start a new one.. After all, someone started one about favorite greasy spoon joints. Plus, this gets my mind off of our boys possibly attending an Andrew Peters golf clinic.

Thus, I've started reading some books simultaneously.

The Romanov Sisters by Helen Rappaport.

Scimitar's Edge by Marvin Olasky.

Far From Rome, Near to God, edited by Richard Bennett and Martin Buckingham. (Don't hold this one against me.)

Medium is not important. It could be a newspaper or magazine article. It could even be something from BuzzFeed and other electronic media.

Steven Pinker: The Better Angels of Our Nature   On how the massive decline in violence happened all through human history up until now. Great book!

Also Bill Bryson The Body, a users guide     About the human body, also very interesting, Did you know we have more numbers of bacteria in our body helping us than human cells!

I read Mario Puzo's The Godfather not long ago.

It's the only book I've read that the movie is better than. Coppola really trimmed the fat on that one.

A few of the early Bond movies improved on some of the implausibility of the books.  Goldfinger, in particular, is far better than the book.

I would put Peter Benchley’s Jaws into the same category.

Movie Ending >>>Book Ending

I've got a whole stack of in-progress tomes at the moment, but today I'm reading the third installation of William Manchester's biography of Winston Churchill, The Last Lion: Defender of the Realm.

I don't have anything to say except that it's excellent.

I liked Churchill’s history of the Second World War and his The Birth of Britain, though it comes across strange with his views on race and such. I read the first half of the Rise and Fall of the Third Reich earlier this year, that period of history is very captivating.

Just finished a biography on John Quincy Adams.

Am currently reading "A Patriot's Handbook" by Caroline Kennedy.  It is a collection of speeches, poems, songs, and stories that will stir your spirit of America.

Will be starting to read "A History of the World" when I start traveling again (which will be soon!)

I'm currently reading the conjuring. Yes I've seen a few shows on it, but, this interests me. As an individual who works in the energy sector, I am well aware energy cannot be destroyed, merely transfered to another form. The events around the human brain, when combined with actual documented unexplainable events, fascinates me.

Wow! I don't hear of too many movies that are better than the original text.

I certainly can't say that about Cecil B. DeMille's rendition of The Ten Commandments with its excessive embellishments and melodrama. I have to mentally block it out every time I read Exodus through Deuteronomy and let Moses be Moses (and not Charlton Heston) - and that's all I'm going to say on the matter.

Having said that, has anyone read Rita Hayworth And The Shawshank Redemption and compared it to the movie? A lot of us know that The Shawshank Redemption was one of the best American movies ever made, but I have never read the book.

Coppola was extremely true to the book. I think he only cut out maybe 2 characters. There are a ridiculous amount of chapters divorced to Johnny Fontaine and how he's a booze bag, who drank away his voice and now he's divorced splitting his time between LA and Vegas. Then there's an entire novella devoted to Lucy Mancini and her doctor who surgically repairs her loose vag*** and makes her achieve climax again. Oh, and she had ten points(interest) in the casino in Vegas.
