I’m vaguely aware of Joe Strummer, though I couldn’t name any of his songs.  Bob Marley is a cultural icon who transcends eras.

I only heard about DMX because I was moonlighting at a Pizza Hut in Killeen, TX. The late teens on crew were playing a local hip-hop station, and that's how I heard about him.

As for the late Prince Philip, say what you will, but the man witnessed more history than some of us could ever dream of.
