Krueger wanted Chris Taylor "gone": Paul Hamilton says

LGR4GM

Recommended Posts

Paul Hamilton "Ralph Krueger didn't want him around anymore. There was something that happened when he (Christ Taylor) was on Krueger's staff and Ralph wanted him gone so he was gone. That was part of Ralph having more power that was given to him. Ralph wanted Seth Appert."

Paul dropped this nugget of information on wgr550 this morning.

  • LGR4GM changed the title to Krueger wanted Chris Taylor "gone": Paul Hamilton says

Never understood the move.  I recall some weird comments about Rochester too focused on winning and not player development.  What’s wrong with both?  What’s wrong with having your  players develop and do it in a winning environment?

Uhlmark, Olofsson, Borgen and Bryson are products of Taylor’s teams. Asplund too.  He spent time trying to rehab Mitts and Tage - two players mishandled from the start.

Too much change and you lose the good with the bad.

Crap, it's as bad as we all thought. Krueger's dug in on the hounds ass, and the hound doesn't appear to know he's hemorrhaging. What we need here is some Advantax 3, rub that ***** all over the hound.

Is this some old folksy saying that I’m not familiar with?

Dug in like a tic on a hounds ass

"A tick buries its head in the skin of an animal or human, and stays there. They're difficult to remove.

So a person who's dug in like a tick is difficult to remove. Usually this person commits to a course of action that's unwise or impractical, and no amount of arguing with get him to change what he's doing"

I just can’t figure out how or why these hounds are owning donkeys.

Now I've got to figure out a way to look up the Sabres' record with Chris Taylor filling in as a bench coach vs. RaKru's record as Buffalo's coach.

Just now, thewookie1 said:

Any idea what our record was when Taylor was the interim assistant coach? I’d guess that while he was here filling in that role they became enemies

Jinx!

Now we gotta figure out which win this Taylor of ours was in...  here it is:

Don Granato returned to practice 11/20/19. So the Sabres would've been 10-8-3 at the time, having just gone through a 6-game losing streak that included the two-game set in Sweden against the Lightning.

So, Taylor helped with a hot start, but it had already fizzled out.

Maybe it fizzled because what Taylor wanted to do was curtailed by Krueger. Guess we will never know but clearly they clashed.

Mr. Hamilton's going to have to put on his investigative journalist hat and go back to the start of the 2019 season do a write up. A quick google search: He'd have just ended traveling with the team at that time (about 10/9 it was reported). So it's all in a couple months where the team starts well and then flounders, and has since sunk to the bottom of the sea.

Well that’s not happening

Not surprised.  After seeing Ralph's comment about Skinner “measuring his whole career on goals”, this petty bitter old man decided Taylor was a threat and fired him for it.  Disgusting.

Ralph must have a pretty weak ego to be scared of a coach who couldn't win an AHL playoff game with a stacked veteran roster.

Olofsson is a product of Sweden.

Borgen and Bryson are a product of the NCAA.

I didn't think I could get aboard the fire ralph train anymore but apparently you can supercharge a steam engine and make it go faster.

Surprised he's not gone already to be honest.  I do blame Adams somewhat for not addressing goaltending and adding a bunch of scrubs (aside from Hall and maybe an old Stall) and thinking these were big enough upgrades.  Having said that, I think RK is as big of a problem as anyone.  What a mess this franchise has become.

I don't want Adams fired but I'm increasingly comfortable assigning him a fair portion of blame the longer the season goes on. And not just for keeping Ralph on. What did we all say the biggest areas of need were this offseason? You mentioned goalie, it was obvious, he didn't do that at all. 2C has been the need for years. We thought he addressed it but what it boils down to at this point is us giving him brownie points for trying - (which maybe seems like a lot cause the previous guy just...didn't) but the spot hasn't been adequately addressed for this season, and it certainly wasn't going forward. Left side D was mentioned a bit. Went unaddressed.

Basically, without addressing the actual holes we had, the only thing that could have saved his offseason was Hall working out splendidly, and it hasn't worked out at all.

He should want a mulligan.

I can imagine a plan was put in place by Botterill where Krueger was hired to change the culture of the room with the expectation that Chris Taylor would move into the Sabres HC Position within 2-3 years. However by the end of last season there was zero communication between Ralph and Taylor, I blame the former.

Ralph rightfully saw Taylor as a threat to His Position and he eliminated it.
He needs to be fired into the sun

Yes to all of this.

I understand any new GM will need time to make all of the changes they envision.  Having said that, everyone and their grandmother new this goaltending wasn’t nearly good enough.  Hasn’t been since Miller.   To go into the last season of Dahlin ELC, a discontent Jack and one season of Hall and he doesn’t addressed goaltending at all?  That is 100% on him.  Such an important season and he doesn’t improve our glaring weakness.

While we’re on the firing train can Steve Smith also please go?  I heard nothing but good things when he came on board but our D have regressed and under performed every season.  Dahlin play this season and trajectory is a fire-able offense on its own.  Period.  Throw in how Montour and Miller both played better hockey before coming here and there’s no way I want that guy to continue behind the sabres bench.

They all played for Rochester, under Taylor.

Olofsson had 30 goals in 66 games under Taylor.
Bryson played 61 games for Taylor last year

Borgen played 2 full seasons and part of a third in Rochester, under Taylor.

Taylor was one of the few bright spots of Boterill regime as he was key in re-establishing our AHL team.
