The Buffalo Sabres play the NY Islanders on National TV tonight at a 6pm start on NBCSN. The Islanders with 19 goals in 9 games should provide little scoring but with the never know what team is going to show up for Buffalo, they're probably licking their chops. The Sabres normally show up for the 1st game of these 2 game series and then who knows who appears for the Sybil's of the NHL. The same can probably be said of HCRK who you never know who he's going to play from game to game and with who. The Risto-McCabe duo and the Special Teams are the only consistently good things happening for the team up to this point in the season. What we're watching currently is nothing short of a ball of confusion.

SABRES at ISLANDERS

This is the first of eight meetings between the Sabres and Islanders this season.

Last meeting: New York defeated Buffalo 3-2 (OT) in New York on Dec. 14, 2019.

Next meeting: Thursday, Feb. 4 in New York

The Sabres are 2-6-2 in their last 10 games vs. the Islanders; 3-5-2 on the road.

This is the 174th game all-time between Buffalo and New York; Buffalo has an 82-66-25 series record.

The Sabres are 36-37-13 on the road against the Islanders all-time.

THIS DATE IN SABRES HISTORY

The Sabres are 9-7-3 all-time on February 2.

February 2, 1975: Buffalo records 58 shots on goal and Jerry Korab and Peter McNab each score two goals in the Sabres’ 8-1 victory over the Kansas City Scouts.

February 2, 1998: The Sabres defeat the Tampa Bay Lightning 7-3, led by Brian Holzinger’s career-high four points (1+3) and a 35-save performance from Steve Shields.

THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW

Buffalo’s penalty kill is 15-for-16 (93.8%) in the team’s last nine games against the Islanders.

Victor Olofsson enters today’s game on a six-game point streak (2+5) that ties as the longest of his career.

The Sabres’ special teams are plus-8 this season, with 12 goals for and four goals against. Entering play Monday, they tied the Boston Bruins for the second-best differential in the league, trailing only the Colorado Avalanche (plus-12).

Before Monday night’s games, only Edmonton’s Ethan Bear and Darnell Nurse (9 GF) had been on the ice for more 5-on-5 goals as a pair than Jake McCabe and Rasmus Ristolainen’s eight goals.

Rasmus Dahlin’s 32 shots on goal led all NHL defensemen and tied for 12th-most overall entering play Monday.

LETS GO BUFFALO

...at least there is a game on NBCSN and another on ESPN+.   Probably won't watch the entire games, just flip on for 3rd period/OT.  Many will laugh at me, but I am looking forward to baseball...and now that may be delayed a month.

Baseball makes for great background noise while you're doing other things, at least for the casual observer, e.g. me.  I don't feel the need to give it anywhere near the level of attention as hockey or football.
