Does flipping Thompson and Rieder make much of a difference?

it seems to for me, which isn't really logical considering their respective track records, which show Toby as a logical replacement for Z.

I have this weird feeling that I'm going to love Rieder as 4th-line PK specialist and hate him anywhere else.

Chaotic energy = long hair?

Eh.  Okay.  If it helps them seize control of the team and run with it, I'll allow it.

Poems = a bunch of words?

C'mon, man. Vibe with it.

Mittelstadt bumped back to the 2nd group?  Bummer.

Gah. He's gonna fully confirm his bust status.

Nope.  He's still out with the top guys but on the line w/ Asplund & R2.

Aka top taxi squaders.  😉

That's my guess. This is the list of players who will be on the taxi squad with a chance of taking a spot from someone else. I think Borgen was also moved and is part of the 1st practice list of players.

I’m wondering a line of Thompson-R2-Cozens with heavy OZ starts might be worth a look for a game or two.

Reider had His Best Seasons playing up the lineup, but there is too much talent on this team in Top Six for him to be there.
So hopefully he is stapled to the 4th Line PK Role

Add Tokarski, Cozens, & Quinn and you likely have the initial team + 6 member taxi squad.  Doubt Quinn stays there past TC, but with the CHL status uncertain maybe he does.

He wouldn't have had an opening if not for Girgenson's injury.  Wonder if Bryson grabs that last spot or a different F as truly doubt Quinn's ready for any NHL action.

Saturday Night at 7pm and Yes

Borgen as the 9th DMan, why is he even there?

Would assume it's because they want to bump him into Miller's spot some in practice to show the guys on the outside that they can earn looks.  And it seems he earned a look at the scrimmage.  (Maybe in the other camp practices as well.)

Puckpedia was reporting that if the CHL isn’t playing, Quinn and Cozens for that matter would be eligible for the AHL.

Something I would like to see tried:

Hall-Eichel-Thompson

Skinner-Staal-Reinhart

Ruotsalainen-Cozens-Olofsson

Reider-Eakin-Okposo

It would be great if some combination of Cozens, Thompson, Olofsson, Mittelstadt, Routsalainen were able to form a competent bottom 6 scoring line.

It wouldn’t necessarily need to get more mins than the other bottom 6 line.  The mins difference between the top two and bottom two lines will likely be large.

It would be really beneficial if the Sabres were able to ice 3 competent scoring lines.

Well right now it looks like we have 2 lines (one more than last year) but the bottom six is still a mish mash and who knows what shakes out of it. Depth will be important this year and I'm not sure we have it. maybe, if Ruotsalainen and Cozens can play NHL minutes at this point and if Tage is decent come real games.

The thing that I haven't been able to understand here is Eakin.  By all indications, Krueger intends to use him in the same role as Larsson last year.  Prototypical fourth line, probably third line by minutes played.

If that was the plan all along, why spend more money on Eakin when Larsson did a stellar job in that same role?  It would make sense if Larsson just wasn't interested in returning, but his brother said that wasn't the case.

I'm sure there is a thought process behind it, I'm just curious what it is.

Ruotsalainen will replace Eakin before this is all over.

Apples and oranges.

I would love to see this but I think RK likes vets too much to ice an all-rookie line.

Eakin is capable of 30-40 points. Larsson has never scored 20.

Maybe the reason Larsson got such defensive deployment is because he could not create offence, and they have no intention of using Eakin in exactly the same way.

Occam’s razor?

He scored 15 pts last year and he won't get anywhere near 35-40 (full season) with wingers like KO and Rieder.  He'll be lucky to get to 15 again in this shortened season.
