Stupid Published trade Rumors/Proposals Involving the Sabres

Recommended Posts

After the silly Bos rumor of Eichel to Bos for a bag of magic beans, I didn’t have to wait long for the next laughable rumor.  He Who Won’t Be Named has posted a thought Buffalo would trade Risto (with picks) to Tor for Kerfoot and Johansson and a pick in 2020 (along with their 7 mill cap hit).  Why exactly would we acquire two more middle 6 LWs, with Kahun, Johansson, Skinner and VO already on the roster? Also why would we ever trade a critical D to Toronto.  Not that Risto would enhance the defensive ability of the Leafs, but I’m not doing anything to help Tor or Bos and I’m certainly not helping Tor with their awful cap situation.

The Sabres should be in the market for 3 things; middle six centers, a backup goalie and maybe a LHD.

I’m sure these will be the first of many. Might as well have a thread to post them in.

Why would they do it? That's easy, cause they're Buffalo and they do stupid things. We went with a multiple extra D man roster last year so why not extra left wingers this time..........lol. But will they do it, I'd hope not.

Someone posted elsewhere that he said we would be offering our 3rd rounder this year as part of it. If he indeed said that it would be the most hilarious thing ever for obvious reasons.

Kerfoot is a C, no?

Toronto’s players are both 3rd liners. We need a 2RW as well as C. This is obviously an atrocious trade for Sabres. I think trading Montour for Kapanen with a small add from us is more likely

Would you do Montour for Johansson and Kerfoot???

Is Kapanen that much better than Johansson?

Pedantic take... neither of these threads are trade rumor threads. They are nothing more than someone’s fantasy idea for a trade.  This is like calling wookie’s trade proposals rumors.

Kappanen is a RW and the best player of the 3.  He has speed which we are sorely lacking. Both Kerfoot and Johannson are signed at 3.5 million for a few years. I suspect Toronto would want to unload one of their salaries.

I figure the chaos in Buffalo would foster more such rumors and we can add them to this thread as well.  I’ll change rumors to rumors and proposals.

The worst part of this rumor was that it was posted as something that was discussed at the deadline but Toronto balked because they needed the forwards.

It's amazing that this post needs to happen in every thread with the words trade or rumor in it.

I feel offended by the fact my proposals are equated to that of Eklund and other incompetent attention desperate media members. Hey, at least I've gotten better over the years whereas Eklund.... well not so much

I like reading Wookie's proposals. I don't always agree with them but I find them interesting.

I read that one too and it seems to be they put it together because the Leafs need 'D' and the Sabres need forwards, only they made it so Toronto gets a good defencemen for some average forwards. Buffalo needs too forwards. I think it less likely that Risto gets moved now after he had a good year with RK coaching and someone like Miller is moved instead.

The Boston rumors are basically just Internet people jumping on Buffalo being a dumpster fire, Eichel making a comment about losing, and them thinking that means Buffalo would be willing to deal him away. If the Sabres move Eichel (it's possible but not likely) it will be because they get some crazy offer that they can't refuse, or because the Pegulas really have no idea what they are doing.....

Everyone on the roster not named Jack Eichel should be on the table. I’d even be ok with trading Dahlin for the right price.

I would have Dahlin as an untouchable over Eichel. But would only move Eichel for an offer they can't refuse.....

NBCSports proposal for the Sharks to acquire Eichel if he demands a trade:

Sabres give up Eichel for ... Timo Meier*, Ryan Merkley, Jonathan Dahlen and a future first-round pick

* Note: he initially suggests Burns instead of Meier, but then makes a pretty good argument for why that wouldn't work.

There was an earlier rumor I saw that had the Sabres wanting the  Sharks goalie , but they wanted the Sharks to retain salary so the Sharks wanted Risto. Looking at that deal, Do the Sharks like 1st rounders?

he is a "center" just as Johansson is...not great but maybe 3rd line. we need a real bonafide NHL 2nd line center (yes just like that guy we shipped out to the Loo) good teams are built down the middle and we are very weak there so it is no surprise we are struggling period. the last thing we need is another 3rd line center and giving Risto for that would be a move even exGMJBotto would not make (or wait a minute maybe he would have but whatever)

Sure, not what you want for a 2C, but he is a center and consistently plays center.  I was just responding to Kerfoot being called a LW, which I don’t think he is.

What are the thoughts of trading our #1 pick for Chicago's Dylan Strome---straight up deal? This topic has been discussed on more than a few occasions on  WGR's Instigator Show with Marty Biron saying no while the other hosts would be more receptive to making that deal. Craig Rivet has been vocal in his willingness to trade our first round pick or including him in a deal for immediate help at the 2C spot.

They should fire anyone who even considers that trade for a half a second.

There are definitely second line centers I would trade the pick for. A slow, mediocre one isn’t one of them.

Good observation. Your thoughts on Strome are the same as Marty Biron's thoughts. He felt that he was somewhat like Reinhart who is a heady player but was too slow for a 2C. He preferred a player who was faster and played a harder game.

This.

Strome is a reasonable target as a stop-gap. I’d give up a second for him.

But he is the prime example of a skilled guy who isn’t hard enough or fast enough to fully utilize that skill against the NHL’s best.

He’ll put up points as a PP specialist, or sheltered with better players, and not much else.
