Marty Biron criticizing Skinner this AM

Recommended Posts

Wow, I have never heard Marty so critical of any Sabres player.  He went on and on about how poorly Skinner was playing with a poor attitude and taking stupid penalties. He felt that Skinner has not been putting in the effort and did not deserve to be rewarded by playing with Eichel.   I'm very concerned that even with a 2C next year Skinner won't be an impact player.

Skinner will be fine.  He has been playing with hot garbage for most of the time this year...wouldn't you be frustrated too?

Probably because he signed an 8 year contract to play with a super star and he's playing with Evan ***** Rodrigues. I don't blame Skinner one bit for being pissed, it makes no sense

What's curious to me is that we plug a rookie into Skinner's role on the top line and he's suddenly amazing.  Even Vesey starts scoring when he's on the top line.  If a player like Skinner is useless without Eichel and Sam,  than he is clearly not worth a huge contract.

There are some metrics and some success that shows Skinner and Larsson work well together.

Unfortunately Larsson probably will not be a Sabre after Monday

When he trades Larsson for a 4th, that's when I'll officially be on the fire botterill train.

He took a penalty last game, but he drew two of them if I remember correctly.  The fact that we can't score on the PP is the real problem.

Isn't Skinner producing opportunities at the same rate just not scoring and get 0 help from line mates.

Marty's not wrong, but it's silly to ask Skinner to be accountable for his play when there are so many other people we can blame.

That said, his game has looked more like the game I remember from last year over the past week. Hopefully, it's a prelude to his scoring returning.

But the world literally would have ended if we didn’t completely agree to his every demand and hand over a huge chunk of our salary cap to him.

Sometimes, heck many times, leaders have to make unpopular decisions that are for the better long term. JBott was so boxed in by the ROR trade he felt he had to throw good many after bad, i guess.

What did Carolina get out of the Skinner trade? I know Pu, but did their cap space savings allow them to sign someone else? (Asking anyone)

*Good for Marty speaking out

This would be the least shocking thing ever.

So you generally like the way he's played since returning from his injury?

More or less. Definitely a few games we're he's been lacking but he's generating chances and getting buried by his linemates sucking. Larsson and Skinner should be a thing.

Has Olofsson really been amazing on Jack’s wing though?  Between Olofsson and Skinner, guess who has scored more ES goals this season.

Olofsson has 8 ES goals is 45 games on Jacks wing.  Skinner has 11 in 50 with Johansson/Lazar/ERod.  Last season Skinner had 32 ES goals.

So, again, has Olofsson really been amazing on Jacks wing?  To me it looks like Skinner is the one who is amazing on Jacks wing.

His metrics are roughly the same.

And as his shooting percentage was above his career average last year, this year it’s way below.

I bet Connor Sheary would do a lot better with Jack, too.

So what?

Connor Sheary isn't capable of 40 goals in 3 seasons, let alone 1

He only has one less point than St. Skinner now, and isn’t a -16, like Skinner.

Maybe Skinner being -16, worst on the team, is the reason he isn’t with Jack.

I’ll admit, I’m still miffed by that contract, I feel we got really hosed.

There is no way to slice it. Skinner was a horrendous signing. Yeah yeah he needs a #2 center but that contract was a massive overpay and looking back JBot would have been better served flipping him at the deadline last year.

Skinner can be redeemed and be a 25-30 goal guy, but at that cap hit?

9m dollar a year players shouldn't be so dependent on having others around them to produce.

What show were you listening to and when?  Instigators? Was this a spot on the Howard and Jermey show?

EDIT:  Here's the link to the segment.

So what?

Considering he was at his best in Pittsburgh with either Crosby or Malkin yes this is true.

The issue is that neither Housley or Krueger tried it for long stretches of play.

Last summer Botterill in many interviews mentioned that Reinhart is capable of driving his own line and yet four days before the trade deadline nothing his changed.

Sheary had 14 goals and 34 points last season away from Eichel.

They should have moved Sheary to a Eichel’s RW to generate more scoring with the other lines, at the the very least Sheary’s Trade Value would be higher
